One of the best film villains of all time has died. No more banning Christmas, no more dodgy German accents and no more Snape. Another victim of cancer

Yeah, apparently. I'm not saddened by the news, to be honest. More happy for the man for the achievements he managed in life by bringing joy to millions and being the best sheriff Nottingham ever had.

I think I'll go watch some more films he was in; I'm already laughing my arse off.

Just saw this on a friend's FB (Rickman and Bowie were two of her three most favouritest people ever, hope Cate Blanchett will be ok).

This just in: Cate Blanchett was struck by a meteor. >.>

:p

OT: I was on my way here to post this news but it looks like someone beat me to it. Don't know if I ever saw a movie with Alan that I didn't like...or at the very least: I've never seen him in a role where I didn't like his performance.

And thus cancer claims another one. Come on Awesome Games Done Quickly: play more awesome games even faster so we can finally be rid of cancer once and for all!

He was the best Hans Gruber.
He was the best Sheriff of Nottingham.
He was the best Rasputin.
He was the best Metatron.
He was the best Alexander Dane.
He was the best Severus Snape.
He was the best Marvin.
He was the best at anything he played.

Not only that--he was the best actor in every single Harry Potter movie. (Okay, so I haven't actually watched Deathly Hallows, but I'm willing to hazard a guess.)

スネイプ先生, "Snape-sensei," is trending on Twitter. He did a damn good job in that movie, I think we can agree.

I'm not a big fan of the Harry Potter movies, but Rickman's Snape is the only actor who I picture as the character when I read the books. He was perfect in that sweet spot where you know why Harry hates him but you can't help but feel a little sympathetic towards him.

Sad to see another British legend bite the dust

I will never forget the first time I saw Die Hard. Rickman's performance as Gruber was, for lack of a better term, flawless. Arguably one of the greatest villains in cinema history. I've got to watch Die Hard again tonight.

Absolutely. I know a lot of people grew up with him as Snape, but he'll always be Hans Gruber to me.

As long as she isn't 69 years old, she'll hopefully be fine.

To be honest my crystal ball is telling me to keep a close eye on Joanna Lumley....

This is terrible. They're taking all the cool ones. Somebody should really go check on Eddie Izzard.

Crap this year is off to a rocky start for celebrity deaths, I woke up to have my whole month retroactively and pro-actively ruined by the death of Alan Rickman.
