There's probably gonna be some spoilers in this, so if you don't want spoilers look away. Seriously, just look away now. I'll give you a minute to leave, don't forget your bag. Cheers!
Now to those who have played the game, you may find the ending lacking. I know I did. What's the importance of Mr. Scratch? Why is Rose the new Lady of the Light, why is Nightingale glaring menacingly over Rose's shoulder at the end when he was clearly taken by darkness? You just gotta wonder right. Also, it's not a lake, it's an ocean.
My theory is such: Alan wrote the darkness out of the lake to save Alice, and wrote it into an ocean. This is odd but in Tom's poem he describes seperate ports meaning Cauldron Lake isn't the only place the darkness exists. Alice swims out of it because the darkness isn't there to clutch at her.
As for Nightingale, I believe that he's becoming the new Jagger.
As a sidenote: I didn't play the DLC, so if the DLC clears any of this up, give me a heads up.
