Alcohol Tax

The lovely British goverment have placed horrifically massive tax on alcohol in order to try and stem the binge drink society that has evolved in the UK. Currently, for every pint we brits pay for 55p goes to the goverment, regardless of price (tax is based on % of alcohol in the drink). In fact this ridiculous tax rate has started to affect pubs, especially in the recession as the goverment didn't stop increasing the tax over the rate of inflation during the recession. As a result, this year 52 pubs were closing every week, meaning 24000 jobs were lost, mostly due to the tax being too high for the patrons to afford.

What do you think to the tax. As you might have noticed I am against it. I want my booze.

and im not sure if you noticed but this dates back to early last year, so this has been in effect for quite a while now

Elope, venture somewhere remote and form a United States and stave off any British aggressors. Make sure your United States doesn't eventually turn into "New Britain" in about 150 years, and you're all set.

I'm Canadian, but paying an extra $1 CAD per pint sounds a hell of a lot better than drinking American beer to me.

That said, that tax is pretty ridiculous. How much is a pint at your average neighborhood pub, with or without the tax?

I know. I'm bringing it up because they're thinking about raising it again, but people aren't too interested at the moment because it's already quite high.

Why not brew your own?...legaly!

It even makes a clever reference to the tax in the banner.

yay prohibition

you think the mountain people in Appalachia are nuts. Just you wait until you have to much with the high taxes. You'll be thanking the toothless bastards after the feds get a hold of your regular brew.

because once they tax the regular stuff, they will start taxing the equipment.

its what the government does, put everyone in collective debt and then tax the living shit out of you to fix their mistakes.

and that's universal
