Alien Resurrection

Yeah so, our internet darling Nostalgia Critic just did his review of Alien Resurrection

Now to be fair, I've never seen any of the other alien movies. I've seen the two Vs Predators though, but this was the first time I saw this flick back when I was 14 and it was playing on TV.

I liked it. I liked the whole space pirates thing. I liked that android chick with the short hair. But the thing that sticks out most memorable to me is this scene...

They have like these prisoners, these guys that were locked in suspended animation or some bullshit. And the scientist were going to use them for the face-huggers to make aliens. So there all bound and locked inside these little glace cases (just their face and hands, and the aliens) and they're still "asleep" or whatever. Then the scientist flip the switch, all the prisoners wake up to being face to face with the face huggers, and naturally the face huggers do their thing and yadda yadda.

I was like... How horrifying. One moment you're going into cryogenic stasis probably on your ship, safe in your little pod, wondering about you adventures ahead, next thing you know your waking up to this horrible creature raping your face and you literally can not get away. (and I'm shocked NC just glossed over this)

That alone makes the flick memorable to me. Anyone else think this flick isn't that bad? Like if you dropped "Alien" from the title and just presented it as a stand alone popcorn flick it be okay?

You're in a position where the flick isn't being judged against its predecessors. If it was your only contact with the Alien franchise, you could be forgiven for thinking it wasn't too bad.

But if you had watched the first two films beforehand, and maybe the third if you liked it enough, it would have been a much bigger disappointment.

Go watch Alien and Aliens. Two very different movies, but both very awesome.

Well said. Next to the originals (Alien and Aliens) Resurection feels like a cheap rip-off at worst and a poorly done, half-assed direct to dvd movie.

Resurrection is alright.

It's the least of the four films in the series, but it has some good sequences and feels like some thought was put into it. Since its predecessors were two outright classics and the very flawed debut of a soon-to-be major director, I'd say it did good just to not be terrible by comparison.

It is also infinitely superior to the AvP films that followed.

Well, I'm not sure if I can subject myself to another Nostalgia Critic review, but Alien films after Aliens have a way of getting fucked up five different ways by otherwise very competent people. Also, the Jeunet/Whedon director/writer combo is the perfect example of the "fish-flavored ice cream" thing - everyone likes ice cream, most people like fish, but pretty much everyone prefers them separately.

I do not care in the slightest for Nostalgia critics overacting but

It most certainly is not very bad by my standards, but compared to its predecessors it is cheap crap
Ripley sinking into the aliens was a cool scene, as was the android acting drunk

Alien > Aliens > Alien 3/Alien R > AvP bullcrap

Predator > Predators > Predator 2

Has that space jockey film come out yet?
