I downloaded Alien Swarm, and when I run it everything in the main menu works fine. But whenever I try to connect to a server- even a dedicated server of my own creation- the progress bar is nearly complete and then the game exits. No error message, nothing. I can't even play offline practice mode. Has this happened to anyone else, and do you have ideas on how to fix it? (Yes, I am aware that it could be due to the sheer number of people trying to connect.)

I was thinking that it might be a hardware issue; I'm not entirely sure my processor is up for it.

Your computer probably doesn't meet the minimum requirements to play the game. I have a couple of friends who tried playing the game on a 1.6 ghz single core processor and they are having the same issues you are. For the record, it needs a 3.0 ghz single core minimum, which is about what is needed for L4D.

It is not a connection issue if you cant even play the SP offline mode (see OFFLINE mode)
As Rokar said chances are its your hardware, while yes it is is a free were top down on the source engine, it does actually take some power to run it.

I second this. It runs on the source engine so I imagine it does the same thing L4D would do on a system that doesn't meet the requirements, and it does exactly this: as soon as the load finishes, it crashes.

For the record, this is what the system information panel has to say on my processor:
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00 GHz
2.99 GHz, 2.50 GB of RAM

This fits the requirements listed on Steam, so by all accounts it should work fine.

I never got any connection issues, but I didn't know that the elevator fight near the beginning was bullet time. I thought I was just laggy as shit.

Now if there's any issues to talk about, it's those fucking swarmer things.

That's nice, but I think you have the wrong thread.

Quitcher bellyachin'. The way Steam works for me, it'll be a week or two before it even allows me to start downloading the game.

But this does not tell us what your video card it, and it is there that a lot of the work is done. Do you know how to find it?

How exactly do you find the video card info? (bear in mind I'm now on vacation for about two weeks, away from my computer, but it could very well be a graphics card issue; I'll post the specs once I return.)

Easy way: Click your Start button. Find the Run.. button or just use the Search Bar (if Windows 7). Type dxdiag and execute the command. You'll get a neat output of all your relevant system information, including Display and Sound.

I had this problem, but then I got an update and it worked. I think its something to do with the ATI drivers as most of the errors were recorded by ATI users.

Just wait for it to realise there is an update and get it.

Sorry but all I can suggest is updating your graphics drivers.

I had this problem myself. Especially if you have a BT Home Hub.

Well if it's a graphical issue then a new graphics card would be the only viable option.

Again, I think you have the wrong thread. Also, I'm already in the group.
