Who else is excited about this game?

For those who don't know it comes out early 09. You play as a squad of Colonial Marines on several areas:

The Sulaco abandon spaceship from Aliens, and some other new worlds.

Everyone in your squad has a different role. Each one has different weapons too. You can play up to 4 player coop multilayer and some other modes not yet revealed. Also players can drop into a game at any time.

You fight various Xenomporphs, from face huggers, drones, warriors, and even a Queen (I think).

It is being developed by Gearbox, and they went to James Cameron and co and got the orininal Alien designs and stuff. Also they have several famous Sci-fi writers on board.

Your weapons are the Pulse Rifle, Flamethrower, Smartgun, shotgun, ect.

There is no HUD too.

This is the game Aliens fans have been waiting for for nearly 25 years!

I pre ordered this for the PC.

It will be available for the PC, 360, and PS3.

Game Informer had a cover story on this a few issues back. It was like 10 pages.

Best of all? This game takes place right after Alien 3. No Clones, no Predators, no Predaliens, no relation to Alien Resurrection or the two AVP movies.

This game just seems like a huge rip-off. I mean, space marines? haven't we had enough???/ I played the gears of War and HA-to-the-LO and space marines are totally not what my friends in home room are all about anymore. We're totally into smart games like Haze. I mean, really confronting the problem of drug use is totally huge.

...

No, I know that space marines are mostly inspired from Aliens. Just pre-empting the comments. (Please Note: I don't hate Gears or Halo. They just seemed appropriate.) (Please also Note: OP? Reported for being non-human. Am I being Xenophobic? Yes, but only towards aliens.)

Edit: Wat, this is generated by a Bot?
This is obviously a placed ad for the game, therefore it is safe to deduce that the Original Poster is a bot...
But don't worry, this bot's completely harmless.

Just don't make eye contact, and don't feed it any rhubarb.

Ok, thanks for the clarification, Canadianwookie.

Still, I am a huge Giger and Alien fan, and I am looking forward to this game. Four-player coop is also a huge bonus in my book.

Where can I preorder this outside the US? Is there some online service that is offering it?

Do I dare inquire what rhubarb might do to it?

It is of no importance, never mind the rhubarb. Forget we ever mentioned it. There is no rhubarb. The rhubarb was a falsification of an idea and it was meant to be misleading. I must again remind you that the rhubarb is entirely fake, and it would be best if you just forgot about it.

Just to play devil's advocate, how do you know that this isn't just someone who is genuinely exited about the game and wanted to give some info on the game for those who don't know much about it, the person didn't provide links to various sites so you can pre-order the game now, only a trailer on you-tube.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhubarb

Rheum is a genus of perennial plants that grows from thick short rhizomes. The genus is in the family Polygonaceae, and includes the vegetable rhubarb (Rheum rhabarbarum or Rheum x hybridum.) The plants have large leaves that are somewhat triangular shaped with long fleshy petioles. The flowers are small, greenish-white to rose-red, and grouped in large compound leafy inflorescences. A number of varieties of rhubarb have been domesticated both as medicinal plants and for human consumption. While the leaves are toxic, the stalks are used in pies and other foods for their tart flavour.
It is or was common for a crowd of extras in acting to shout the word "rhubarb" repeatedly and in an unsynchronised manner, to cause the effect of general hubbub. As a result, the word "rhubarb" sometimes is used to mean "length of superfluous text in speaking or writing", or a general term to refer to irrelevant chatter by chorus or extra actors. The American equivalent is walla. Stage actors in the United States also use word "rhubarb" repeated asynchronously in a low or murmured tone to provide background voice ambience in crowd or party scenes. A variation of this is the repetition of the phrase "peas and carrots"

Possibly from this usage, possibly from a variant on "rube", or perhaps some of both, the word also denotes a loud argument. The term has been most commonly used in baseball. The term "rhubarb" as it relates to baseball is an antiquated reference to a fight amongst many players. The iconic bench-clearing brawl is known as a "rhubarb".

FruitsIn the 1989 film Batman, The Joker (Jack Nicholson) tells Bruce Wayne (Michael Keaton) to "never rub another man's rhubarb". The term was used as a threat to Bruce Wayne warning him to leave both men's love interest Vicki Vale (Kim Basinger) alone.

In the 1951 film adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize winning play by Tennessee Williams, A Streetcar Named Desire, Stanley (Marlon Brando) gets into a ruckus at the bowling alley. His wife Stella (Kim Hunter) points him out to her sister Blanch (Vivien Leigh) and says, "(he's) the one that's making all the rhubarb", to describe him as the person at the centre of, or instigator of, the disruption.

The phrase "out in the rhubarb patch" can be used to describe a place being in the far reaches of an area. Rhubarb is usually grown at the outer edges of the garden in the less desirable and unkempt area.[citation needed] Whereas the leaves and roots are poisonous, the stem is not. The term also refers to a 1954 book by Red Barber and Barney Stein, The Rhubarb Patch: The Story of the Modern Brooklyn Dodgers in which "Rhubarb Patch" was used in both its baseball and more general connotations to describe Ebbets Field, the home of the Brooklyn Dodgers.

In Canada, the phrase "putting it in the rhubarb" describes driving a vehicle off the road, possibly into roadside vegetation.

"Donkey Rhubarb" refers to Japanese knotweed[15] and is also the name of an EP by Aphex Twin.

Rhubarb Monkey is the pet of the Strawberry Shortcake character Raspberry Tart.
Answered.

Bot or not, I had no idea this game existed, and being a fan of the old AvP game, i'm interested.

Aliens: Colonial Marines is a tactical shooter in which the player controls four Colonial Marines, each with a different personality and primary weapon. Each player character can carry additional weapons including a flamethrower, pulse rifle, pistol, RPG, and grenades.[2] The player controls one marine at a time, issues orders to the others using context-sensitive commands, and may switch between characters at any time.[3] The player will also occasionally be required to control a particular location, using tactical positioning and turrets to fend off attacks.[3] Unlike many other first-person shooter games, Aliens: Colonial Marines will have no HUD to provide the player with onscreen information.[4]

The primary enemies of the game are Aliens which will generally attempt to sneak up on or outflank the player, forcing the player to use tactical combat to confront them. Several different types of Aliens will appear and will attack differently. Facehuggers will attempt to attach themselves to the player character's face, implanting an embryo inside them which will then kill them. "Warrior" Aliens are the primary enemies and are based primarily on the appearance of the Alien in Aliens. "Scouts" are faster and will spy on the player characters' activities. They will work in small groups or alone. These Aliens will be based off of the appearance seen in Alien. "Drones" primarily carry then position eggs and work in the heart of the Hive serving the Queen, were originally going to be in Aliens along with the "Warriors". An Alien queen will also appear as a "boss" enemy.[5] Quick time events will be used for one-on-one combat between the player characters and Aliens. The Aliens will occasionally flee rather than attack when confronted by more than one marine. Quick time events are also the primary mechanic when the player is attacked by a facehugger.[5]
MEH! QTE! Never the less if they can make it as good as Republic Commando was, it should be good. I'm not sure how the whole "pee your pants" fear thing aliens have going on is conducive for strategic thinking, the lack of a Hud suggests at least SOME Survival Horror elements- even though you are a badass heavily armed Colonial Marine.

Damn, the bot is spreading.... I thought it was benile.

Looks like we'll have to resort to plan B, begin OPERATION RHUBARB!!!

"Sir! You've lost your mind! The last time we tried such a maneuver the forums didn't recover for days!"

"I don't care about the damn risks, just do it! WE NEED TO KILL THE BEAST."

"But sir! Think of the costs? The sacrifices?"

"It's too late to go back now..."

Canadianwookie gives the bot some rhubarb...

Fair enough, there is something to be said about giving the benefit of the doubt. However, color me totally suspicious since this post brings the OP's total post number to... One. Also, who writes like that? I'll tell you who. Those slithering beings who lurk just outside our peripheral vision, plotting and waiting for the right moment. That's right. Ad executives.

It probably is a bot since it's almost been an hour since the thread was made and still no response to any comments from the OP.

but bot or no bot I have been looking forward to this game, and I'm not sure about vs. multiplayer but since it's a squad of four you can bet on co-op since it's all the rage these days.

Then you'll have to play online on Live. I want you to think about that.

It might just be easier to buy the game for PC and return it within the week cause it didn't hold your fancy.
I'm not interested in the Multiplayer. Infact I find Console multiplayer to be a bad idea that detracts from a solid singleplayer game. Multiplayer is what PC's are for.

As a diehard Alien and Giger fan, I have always been sorely disappointed in the games using the Alien and/or Predator IP. "Aliens" and "Alien vs Predator", the side-scrolling arcade games were a fucking riot and have to date eaten at least $500 in quarters from me, but all the PC and console games since have been a butload of suck. Confusing and unchangeable controls, user friendliness like Charles Manson on LSD and Viagra, and visually interesting but very distracting.

This game I hold high hopes for, if they aren't dicking with making the Xenomorphs playable it should drastically improve control ease. About now, the only thing that could shoot this game down is bad DRM, but it's Sega and Gearbox, so here's to hoping for the best.

You didn't like AvP or AvP 2 for PC? Fair enough...actually, those are the reason (And the films + Giger :3 (Not those AvP films bah!)) I'm interested in Colonial Marines, I do hope it'll turn out well. As cliches go they aren't really that much of a problem as long is a game is done well on it's own.

As for Xenomorphs not being playable, that's a real shame, they were awesome to play as in AvP/2, sure, there's a lot of ways to get them wrong, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't try. Same goes with the Predators, they'd be awesome for a little stealth based gameplay. But again, easily messed up.

I wonder if they're only going with the marines this time because: Runs. Shoots. Easily terrified.
And granted, some of the scariest parts were the Marine levels, because compared to the Xenomorphs and the Predators they were comparatively weak.
