After many hard and grueling hours of work i have saved up the amount of $4000. Now i am set the difficult task of choosing a laptop which i'm actually quite excited about :D. I was just wondering are the personal opinions of many escapists out there.

If you PC game, I suggest the Alienware.
As for the Mac, a PC can do everything a Mac can, and cost less.

Everything I was going to say
I would normally say it depends on what you want out of a computer but Macs are so expensive, in comparison a PC can do more for a lot less

If you're out often where there's no recharge ports, go with the Mac as it has a longer battery life.
If you're a gamer, you'd want to stay the hell away from the Mac.

Yeah before you pay for all the software that comes pre-installed on a mac and your forgetting that generally Alienware is more expensive than a regular IBM anyway.

OT it depends what you want to do with it. If you want to game go with the Alienware but if you're into graphics design then mac is the way to go as it has the best applications for it pre-installed and subsequent ones are cheaper for a Mac as this is the general purpose of them. If you want neither of these (as I did) alternatively one could buy a Mac and if the need arises to run windows applications you can always partition your hard drive and install XP or Vista on it. It's extremely simple and explained well on the apple site. In the end it comes down to what your preference is, don't let people on internet convince you how to run your life, if I had done that I never would have bought my Macbook Pro and it was the best thing I ever got. I use my 360 to game so no problems there and I've never had a problem with it.

EDIT: Why no poll?

If you're trying to get a computer for gaming, go with PC and go with a desktop. You should also forget all about Alienware and just build your own or if you don't want to learn how/take the time find someone locally that will build it for you. Failing THAT, check out websites like ibuypower or cyberpowerpc (not sure if those are reputable now, but my old roommate had a kickass PC from cyberpowerpc for at least two years that was almost as cheap as DIY).

I say this because I had a laptop about five years ago that was designed for gaming and I always, always, always had heat and battery issues. The power you're gonna have to put out to play modern games at high settings is just too much for laptops. If you're going to plug it in anyway and have a place where you can mount an extra fan or something...then buy a desktop and a cheap laptop for travel/school/whatever.

Whatever you do, don't blow tons of money on Alienware. They are way overpriced and you're just paying for the name.

Edit: Oh, and I feel the same way about Mac. Paying for the name, basically. Well, unless you're doing graphic design and such like the above poster said. Then you'll probably come out cheaper in the long run.

Unless you buy an Alienware system; in which case you'll spend just as much if not more. :)

So the choice between a mac and a PC (for me) comes down to utility. If you're going to do much gaming, I suggest a PC windows system (in this case, Alienware). If you're going to do alot of Graphic Design, like me, you'll want a Macbook Pro. I have both, and utilise both for their seperate tasks. I'd never get a Mac with the intent of playing sweet games. Nor would I buy an Alienware Laptop with the intent of doing some of the best Graphic Design work I can.

(This is not to say Macs are piss for gaming, and PC systems are poor at Design.)

With that in mine, my answer lays within what you plan on doing with your system.

I wouldn't go with either. Macs stink when it comes to games and price, and Alienware is owned by dell bringing along their infamous support service. If either break down i would invest in a fuckton of advil. Better off goin with the sites that Najos said:

I'd suggest PC. But I would go for a brand name like alienware, very overpriced. You'd do better using all the money you'll save to get a cool case mod.

As a Mac user, I'd say go Alienware. But it all comes down to what you plan to use your laptop for. On the fly media stuff, the Macbook would be great, but if you're gaming, stick with the Alien. And don't waste too much of the 4k on it too.

I'm not tooo sure on how easy it is to build you're own gaming laptop, but Alienware seem to overprice their stuff hugely.

Mac isn't too great for gaming but is solid for most other things...

Look at it this way; you could spend 4k on a lappy or get a desktop for 2k and spend the other 2k on games.

Edit: Not that I would suggest this, bu..

Get the MacBook Pro.

Mine is 2 years old, and still the best gaming machine among all my friends (All of us being computer geeks).

Those ignorant of the true means say that you can't play games on Mac, but it is completely possible.

If you're too lazy to learn, just get your hands on a copy of Windows 7 and dual boot.

Alienware is way overpriced compared to Apple, which is saying something.

UGH.

if you are a PC gamer, spend the bulk of change on a custom rig-- built from parts on newegg-- and then get a nice little laptop for portability.

Lugging around enormous laptops for gaming is a bit silly.

Oh, and macs are for sissies.
