I'm playing God of War for the first time right now. Last night, I got to Pandora's Temple not knowing what I had coming. You see, I was thinking it would be a quick section like the rest of the game up to this point. But it's really more of a big section with sub levels. For some reason, I don't like starting a section in a game without finishing it (kind of like how I don't like to put down a book in the middle of a chapter), so I kept on pushing through for three hours (give or take some) and going to bed at a much later hour than I intended. The whole time I just kept thinking to myself, "I have to be almost there..."

I can think of a few others cases like this, like the Fade in Dragon Age: Origins. I thought it would be short because it was basically a level within a level.

So have you had something like this happen to you?

yeah, definitely, just not with games. With downloads or installations, I'll often stay up late to make sure they get downloaded/installed, so I can check it out quickly before I go to bed.

Oh yes. That's an annoying one because you have to find things to do while waiting.

Cutscenes in Metal Gear Solid 4...
I played this game on a roommates PS3 a few years ago. I had to go to work that morning (I had about an hour and a half) but decided I'd play a game with my breakfast and coffee. Having never tried a Metal Gear game, I popped in MGS4 and prepared to play. I can't remember, I think there was a very short gameplay segment and then a freaking long cutscene that caught me totally off-guard. When it finished playing I had to save and quit to get to work on time.

I enjoyed the hell out of the game (and actually just bought it), but I wasn't prepared for that.
