Has anyone ever played this strategy game for the PC, I love it! I recently got a copy for my new laptop, and I installed the Windows XP compatibility patch. I also know theres problem with running it on newer processors, which is supposed to be fixed by changing the value of ForceVoxelAlgorithim in the ini file, and this worked on my main PC, now I'm only asking this here, because I can't find an answer anywhere else, you see, when I go to modify the ini file on THIS installation theres NOTHING, literally, it reads

[Alpha Centauri]

Would just removing all the files and then transferring all the files from my desktop computer over work? or is it something else?

Regards

Transfer over all the files and registry entries and it SHOULD work, but it could also break the universe (or at least your computer.) Make sure you back up your registry first.

And yes, the game IS awesome (I have it ranked #2 on my all-time list behind Rome: Total War), and I still play it whenever I've a couple of hours to kill.

The idea is to effectively manually do the installation sequence. I am not, however, a tech support guy, and would therefore not be the one to ask for step-by-step instructions (also, nothing personal, but I have more interesting ways to spend my time regardless.)

There is a way to fix it as I managed to do it a few months ago, but I remember it being damn hard. Let me see if I can find the article.

There's a patch here : http://www.gamershell.com/download_436.shtml

I do remember that it works much better if you set it into Win98 compatability mode.

I managed to get it working by just slamming it in compat mode to Win98 without patching anything. Though all the movies were green. But I can live with that.

Off topic: it warms my blackened heart to see that some people still play the good games. :)

Works OK for me, and I'm on Vista, so theoretically nothing should work at all. What happens if you just install and run it without third party patches?

I loved the movies! I know the Gaian Acolytes Prayer from the Weather Paradigm secret project completion movie off by heart ^^'

The movies are great, no doubt. But I can live with them in green these days. I've played the game enough to live with it. Though I do watch them separately from time to time. :)
