I think I'm the normal type. A "geek-of-all-trades" if you will. I'm not a fan of metal outside of black sabbath, I dress normal, actually I way too plain most of my shirts don't have an image on them, and are just plain grey T-shirts. I don't do drugs or alcohol but am not opposed to them in any way.
But honestly Alt-Geek sounds a little redundant to me. But I'm just the kind of guy who thinks geek and nerd are the same thing so my opinion doesn't matter. Actually I kinda think that reacting to being called a nerd instead of geek, is kinda like being mad when a restaurant serves pepsi instead of coke.

I guess I'm just a normal geek, then? I love computers and games, but I dress normally and listen to hip-hop.

Alt-geek is a pretty okay term, however.

I'm a huge geek. I love sci-fi, fantasy, video games, ad&d and science.

I also love piercings, tattoos, punk, metal, sex, drugs and rock n roll.

So, I don't know if I'm coining the term, but I'm an alt-geek.

Who's with me?
I've never played ad&d (if that's supposed to mean Dungeons and Dragons) and would like to cross out the piercings, tattoos, drugs and sex parts, but concerning the rest count me in!
You don't like sex? WTF?
Hey, I know... I'm a strange, straaange person :D
Dunno, I just find it to be a somewhat disgusting procedure and I don't expect anyone to share this opinion, it's just my view.
But, you've experienced it, no? Sorry, I'm having trouble grasping this. Disgusting in a good way? Thats understandable.
Experienced yes. Found it desireable no... but don't worry, I don't expect anyone to get my point.

I've always wondered what the connection with geeky-ness and alternative culture is. I do physics at uni and there are way more metalheads than you would find anywhere else in the uni. I reckon maybe 50% of both the rock soc and the folk soc do physics.

Its probably something to do with being outsider cultures. Also, metal seems to be one of those genres where fandom of it seems to encourage nerdyness, from my experience on this forum and in real life, pretty much any given metalhead could reel of hundreds of metal bands they follow in a way I've don't really see with any other genre.
