I was wondering if any else knows about a semi-alternate ending to the game. I know this might have only existed on a few cartridges or heck even just mine. During the ending to SMB 3 it would normally do a little slide show naming of each world, Desert land, big land etc etc on everyones cartridge. Though on my copy I had different names. Here they are.
1 Grass land
2 desert hill
3 ocean side
4 big island
5 the sky
6 ice land
7 pipe maze
8 castle of koopa.

Anyone know why this is?

Yeah, what's wrong with that? Super Mario Bros. 3 still is my favorite NES game and I still regularly play it with a friend.

Best Mario game Of all time.

Even though World 8 was ridiculously stupid with all those cannons and bullet bills flying about.

Well, I bought it two years ago from the flea market. Older Nintendo consoles actually have the reputation of being very durable. You only need to blow the dust off the cartridge when you want to switch games (and you'll probably need to reinsert the cartridge a few times). The save batteries in games like The Legend of Zelda probably won't work anymore though.

if i recall you could get a different ending if you mad the final fight with bowser last longer; like he had to stomp the bricks in a certain way or something.

OT is likely referring to the Super Mario All-Stars version of SMB 3. Those are the names it used in the ending, whereas the original just used '____ Land' for each world. Not sure if the GBA remake used those too, but they first appeared in All-Stars.

No this was when the game first came out. My original copy when I was a little kid had those changed names, and that's why I remember them.

I think the ending in the GBA version is a little bit different, in that Peach says something different when you save her (Oh, spoilers...).
