Is Saelune a furry? I know she's got the furry avatar, but I can't remember if that's something she identifies as?

Do they have a fursona? If so, furry. If no, they have an anthro avatar.

So for those of you who say "You need a fursona to be furry", answer me this...

What about those who are furry, go to the cons and everything, but the main character they use to interact with the fandom is HUMAN? Or what about those who go to the cons and hang around the websites but don't have a legitimate fursona? Those do exist too, yanno.

Quoting only to reinforce your point. The point in case being Me!

I have no fursuit or fursona, my interest is purely external. I like the look (in a "romantic" fashion) of anthropomorphized animals.
There are also people who's interest is from an internal, escapist, view.
Both of those are equally valid to be called furrys. Or what would you say is the difference between people NOT interested in anthro characters and those who ARE? Because the divide can be huge! As evidenced by "furry is cancer" and "burn, it/the heretic, with fire".

Again, the simplest definition of a furry is someone interested in anthro(pomorphized)/humanoid animals.
From either an internal or external view.
That's it.

When it comes to figuring out where you stand on this, I think the important question to ask is, WHY you enjoy the mildly furry/nonhuman things. I frequent lots of fan art sites, and I have a tolerance for furry material, but I only look at it at all because the characters look somewhat human, kind of like a guy who goes to a sporting event, just to socialize and eat hot dogs. If I get nothing out of the actual sports game, then I'm no sports fan.
I think part of it might be because it's just so easy these days to come across images of ordinary real-life women being attractive that just looking at IRL chicks just gets kinda boring after a while. So you start looking for other things you might find attractive, which leads you into the realm of fan arts, and you start seeing things that just add a little something unusual to the human form. Not much, but just enough that you can tell it would be a different experience if such a thing actually existed.

As far as the typical animal-eared girl, i.e. Holo of Spice and Wolf, I try to imagine what it might be like petting her fluffy tail, or scratching her fuzzy ears(gently, of course), and wondering how she'd react to such actions. Not just strictly in sexual terms, either, if I'm honest. Wondering how she'd react if we were just cuddling together in front of a fireplace(or doing something similar) and I started lightly stroking her tail, or gently scratching her ear.

Back on topic, when you're appreciating the Asari, how would you feel if they were 100% human instead? Would you like them more? Less? If their Asari-ness adds to their appeal in any way, then that means you do have some appreciation for it at least. Otherwise, you're just like me. These fandoms often have a spectrum for these things, to describe how far from human a character can get before they become too off-putting for someone. However, I don't think they actually have labels for it, so in that case you'd just say that you're low on the furry/xeno spectrum.
As far as the Asari, well, yeah, there are certain things that make it clear that she's not human, and going back to my response to your first paragraph, it's that little something out of the ordinary that makes her attractive. But, again, if you look at Asari bodies, they're basically entirely human in overall structure, just with that odd tentacle crest thing on the top and back of her head.

And since you missed it, I'm going to go back to the Gardevoir example, from Pokemon. Again, it's the fact that it's something out of the ordinary, somewhat unusual, while still being largely humanoid. Gardevoirs are about as far as I'd be willing to go in terms of "non-human", though, between their odd skin coloration, unusually thin bodies and limbs, and that crystal thing in their chests.

So yeah, I guess I fall under the "might as well be a normie" tier of xenophilia/furry; but I will admit that there's a certain attraction that I have to things that are just slightly outside the ordinary.

I have no idea and at this point I'm to afraid to ask.

However, as a kid, I did have a crush on Blackarachnia and Cheetara.
