Am I a shamer?

So I was talking to a feminist friend of mine earlier, and we were talking about home security. I acknowledged that thieves are bad people, and that while it would be ideal for me to leave my door unlocked so my friends could come and go, that would probably be a bad idea because someone could steal all my shit, so it would probably be a good idea to lock my door. She then informed me that telling people to lock their doors was homeowner shaming of the worst kind, and how dare I suggest that it's all the victims fault for not locking their doors, despite the fact that I had not allocated blame in any way. What I want to know is, am I a homeowner shamer for suggesting that people acknowledge that other people are scum and that one should take precautions?

Shamer?
You're friend is crazy, if there are people out there that will take any opportunity to steal you're shit then obviously locking the door makes sense, besides how is it shaming? A lot of people lock their doors and are still robbed by some asshat that broke a window or cracked the lock, it's just a precaution, and if people get robbed because they left their door open it's not really they're fault but they obviously didn't take any precautions to prevent it, eh I think you're friend is crazy, though I have no idea how the fact that she's feminist is relevant to the topic in any way.

How exactly did this conversation go? How is recommending something like making sure your door is locked Shaming? Your friend is either crazy or you said it in a really weird way that placed blame on robbery victims. Now think, are you sure you didn't say something like "people who leave their house unlocked are morons who deserved to get robbed." No? Then your friend is batshit bonkers.

EDIT: Damn, I bit... You did say something really weird. I'm pissed

No*.
Just, no.
Dude, I can see what you're trying to do- you've made it pretty obvious and all I can say is `No`. I'm not biting, and I honestly hope nobody else does too.
Honestly, I'm tired of this conversation, you have no intention of changing your mind and just want to stir shit up that has only recently just stopped spinning.

If you guys are confused about what I'm on about-

On a more serious note, "slut shaming." No one gives a shit what you do with your body, and telling someone to be careful about getting fucked up while wearing provocative clothes around strangers isn't slut shaming any more than telling someone to lock their doors is homeowner shaming.
*As in, `no, not doing this again`. I think you're wrong, with your actual opinion, not the one you made up.

Ok so this thread is trash then. I have no idea why people look for other people on the internet to validate their fringe (wrong) beliefs, when a quick google search gets the job done.

There you go buddy.

Oh damn!
I think I bit, shit now I have an idea why he thought mentioning that his friend is feminist is relevant, I think I'm mad now that somebody would use this with such intention.
*sigh* Now I feel like an idiot.

OT ANYWAY, disregard my first post because after reading T0ad 0f Truth's comment and this one, I do have a feeling that you must have said it in a way that did put the blame on the home owner and you had the intention of making you're friend look bad.

More likely this conversation never happened and dude is just straw-feministing in order to equate women with houses.
Either way, I'm out of this thread, may it sink to the bottom of the forum.

First off this thread is such obvious bait it's not even funny.

1/10

OT: Lets just say that while the...home owner...should take necessary precautions so they don't get...robbed.....it is the fault of the...thief....for committing the crime and in a perfect world we wouldn't need to....lock our doors.

I'm pretty sure it's common sense to lock your door. Of course if somebody wants in you're getting in, but leaving the door open just makes you an easier target. If she considers "shaming" promoting the inherently safest practices, then yeah. I guess you are a "shamer," by her definition anyway.

I'm guessing the reason you mentioned she was a feminist was to draw parallels between how she claims homeowners are at fault for stuff getting stolen by leaving doors unlocked and women getting blamed for rape for dressing provocatively. The comparison is often used the other way around to blame rape victims, but both ways it's flawed logic because whether or not the theft or rape was facilitated by the situation, that doesn't make it any less wrong. But personally I would say the homeowner deserves a bit more dissent than the rape victim, simply because the entire purpose of locking doors is to prevent theft. On the other hand, the purpose of provocative clothes is not always to welcome sex.

I knew what was coming before I even entered the thread through the title alone, so I will award your attempt negative points. Your thread is a miserable failure OP.

No.

She is an idiot for thinking that.

If I were you I wouldn't even bother thinking about what she said because that is just stupid.

Telling someone to lock the doors on their house when they leave is common sense, like locking your car.

Edit: After re-reading that I can't believe I actually bit. I gotta read this stuff more carefully.
