I was playing Mercenaries 2 world in flames. Doing all the small stuff. Then I started to question am I having fun or doing for the sake of doing? Any of you have this trouble? Where your not quite sure if you still playing a game because it?s fun. Or your just playing it to finish it. If so what game was it?

Spiderman Web of Shadows. The Subquests are like pulling teeth. Especially if your dumb like me and do them as soon as you get them, not realizing story events change the world and make those sub quests easier.

It happened to me a few times. I stopped playing the game because it was new and possibly fun, and played for the "What happens next".

All the GTA San Andreas tiny things, which when I completed them gave me a tank, jet, and unlimited ammo.....but the game was over, so what's the point?

Ninja Gaiden 2. I asked myself that three times. And by the third time the answer was a definite no. And I haven't touched it since.

I ask this question every time I play a turned-based strategy game, like Civ or Total War. I'll play for 8 hours straight, get my butt kicked, feel like crap, then be pissy for the rest of the day.

Was it fun? Was it worth it? Or am I just desperately going through the motions to feel some small sense of accomplishing something in my meaningless life?

...Eh, who cares. I'm a gamer. Fun or not, I shall game.

That happened to my actually while playing Oblivion. It got old terribly quick but i couldn't leave it so i kept asking why i still played to i couldn't have been having fun.

I unfortunately found out due to this that I was turning into an achievement whore(sniff). I found myself playing games that were especially difficult just so i could get those crazy achievements not many others had whether i was having fun or not it was terrible.

Meh, the final chapter in Dead Space. It lost all its horror by then and was only a slightly slow shooter. I just wanted to finish it to see what happened to Isaac's girl and how the whole thing ended. I have to say the final cut scene was enjoyable again but the last chapter? Not so much.

There are a lot of PC gamers on these boards.

PC gamers don't believe in 'fun'. They're like the fun-agnostics.

I agree.. Many games do this.. Give you all the extra benefits when the game is over... Really annoying!

But you got such a great feeling of accomplishment after beating it even though you might of wanted to break the game.

I ask myself am I having fun each time I play TF2 and there is that other sniper that gets the perfect headshot. Eventually I stop playing because I know ill die.

I think achievements are doing the same thing for gaming, just leading to players obsess over every last aspect of the game.
There's a thin line between amusing and rewarding grind to frustrating repetition

Assassin's creed

i only kept going through the repetitive ness just so i can hurry up and finish the game so i can trade it in for something better..

Ridge Racer 7

i was bored and had to play this excuse of a game only becuase it came free ,,,seriously why does it get so much attention this game is a peice of shit ? i only played it to occupy myself till something new come out .....or til my package arrives

Oblivion

i would useally watch my brother play and since he did everything and i mean everything !!
there was little motivation for me to continue on my save file

Halo 3

i only played through the storyline because i wanted to find out whats going to happen i never felt i was really having fun......

Super mario Bros

there are many reasons for this but the main point is when you play it and about a half hour later you would ask "am i having fun ? "

I wonder if any Runescape players will turn up... :p

For me, it was Bioshock; not that I was going for achievements, but that I was pretty much grinding through the latter part of a game that I was no longer enjoying. I partially bypassed this effect on the ridiculous last boss of Serious Sam by using god mode; it still took ages to destroy the stupid thing. I hate bosses.
