I am having a very hard time understanding what you are getting at. Are you really making a hypothetical question about what you should do in a situation where you did nothing wrong but are being blamed anyway? Cause then you don't really have to do anything, the burden of proof rests on the state.

I was thinking that it was more he was worried about being popped for child porn charges.

I could easily be wrong, maybe this thread should be more about what this guy actually means.

There are consequences to showing pictures of you to your friends, there is a certain chance your friends are douchebags and feed off of others' misery.

She has no case. A rumor is not evidence. Unless she can pull up your phone records and find that the image was sent to you, or that you sent the image to other people, she can't do shit legally.
to make it cleary was shown it on someone else phone .

This is why you don't take half naked photos of yourself and pass them to people.
Kids these days are fucking morons...

But if its just a rumor you should be fine. If there's no solid proof then they can't punish you for anything.

It's in the UK, and I'm not sure how it works there(common law and stuff, in the Netherlands we practice civil law), but harming ones privacy is pretty criminal.

Since it's been done over a webcam, I presume it's done to a specific person. Them violating that trust in such a severe way is in my opinion at least worth a civil trial. Also, if the girl is underaged, it's technically the distribution of child pornography.

I too am a 3rd year law student;)

Is why you won't should not have any legal worries. It would be very unlucky and highly unfair for your school to punish you for it, in the meantime maintain strongly that you did not spread the rumour.

Spreading a rumour that isn't true is considered slander, even if the OP was guilty of what he is being accused of, he is not in the wrong legally, if the video exists then he is not damaging the person's social standing, she did that when she made the vid.

True, but since this rumor is a true one, since there the video has been passed about, you could say that at least the passing about of the video is perfectly punishable. You could at least get some justice by going to court and ask for termination of showing and/or sharing the video, since it violates article 8 of the treaty of Rome:

Article 8. - Right to respect private and family life
1.Everyone has the right to respect for his private and family life, his home and his correspondence.

Since it is technically correspondence of confidential nature, the passing about is a violation of this article.

As I pointed out, this becomes even more of a problem when she is a minor, which makes it child pornography, having you look at a nice jailsentence, or at least a pretty hefty fine if you have a really expensive lawyer.

Indeed, if what the OP says is true, and he had nothing to do with the rumour and there is no evidence to the contrary then it seems he is safe.

Yup, but we can't know exactly how stuff happened. IF the OP is true, then he's safe. A rumor is a base for search(not going in deep, just say there's reasonable cause), but if nothing's found, he's safe.
