It's a good game, it is just severely hampered by being half finished. There isn't a total "game breaking" bug in there, but there are some baffling design decisions and poor quality control.

My biggest bugbear, and the game's biggest strength, is the dialogue system. It's got good writing, meaningful choices, and real results. However, it's timed. Not a problem in itself, and I like the flow it gives to the game, but sometimes you have to make your choice before the NPC has finished speaking. YOU MUST REACT BEFORE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE REACTING TO.

If it was called Psychic Protocol: Cold Reading, I wouldn't mind, but that's a fairly basic level screw up in a game where the dialogue and choice is hyped up.

I love Alpha Protocol!!....

I've finished it twice already and I'm gonna finish it a few times more.

Yeah it has its weak points but the overal package is worth the expense in my book.

I never the stealth was great and though the gunplay is a bit strange at times as long as you pick the right skills for your playing style there's no real problem.

So....No!....You're not the only one! I thought I was!

*Edit: Also it is indeed extremely addictive....It is a rare thing that I finish a game twice in a row and restart immidiatly for my third playthrough. And I'm not even really that muchinto spy-stories. XD

I might pick this up in a sale in the future just to see what Obsidian have done but I'm lukewarm towards it due to not being that interested either in shooters or the theme.

I think that judging the game based on a rant by tabloid gaming blogs is not the best plan. If you do this, do you get all your news from tabloid papers and fox news as well? Some commenters on more specialist forums are giving more balanced reviews of the game and the impression I get is that if you are expecting a shooter like Mass Effect 2 or Gears of War then you will be disappointed but if you want to see a proper branching story by Obsidian's writers then you will be satisfied.

I dunno from what I was able to see it didn't look all that good and the whole choice is your weapon I think Mass effect 1 and 2 does that better but that is just my opinion.
And why do you think that, if I may ask? Paragon/Renegade + several bit more shades of gray as a choices? That's as dull as it can get. As always with the RPG's I played through it with all decisions I would make if I were in that kind of situation, and I became a Paragon of Super Justice Protector of The Universe... Man. Apart from notable exceptions (Legion's loyalty mission for example) it's just simple 'I'm a righteous man, and I will save the galaxy' or 'I'm a dick, who just happens to save the galaxy'. In fact, I was disappointed that they kept Paragon/Renegade system in ME2. Not to mention those choices does not mean jack shit anyway, again with a few notable exceptions.

Alpha Protocol on the other hand, really does a great job with choices. My friend bought it on PC, while I bought it for PS3 and we played simultaneously. Although our playthroughs ended up with the same final fight in the same place (I expected nothing less here), we had such a different stories in the middle, it's astounding. For example

I got to know that Madison is a daughter of Parker. Thanks to it, later in the game, I contacted Parker, told him that Marburg killed his daughter. Even though he was a traitor after all, Parker decided to take out Marburg, died in the process, but at least shot Marburg, and thanks to it I could get his ass in a boss fight before coming after Leland.

Meanwhile, my friend didn't obtain information about connection between Parker and Madison (she didn't like him as she liked me apparently). Because he didn't know that, he couldn't contact Parker (or rather, he didn't have a reason), and eventually fought with him as a boss instead of Marburg.

Of course this is only one simple example. There are a lot more situations like that (Moscow. Oh Moscow...).

In my opinion THIS is exactly the way, the plot that gives you choices should be made by every developer ever.

Love the game. Beat it once, now I'm playing as Recruit Mike on Hard :D

I feel that Mass effect is an all around better game. With tighter controls and a better story also Mass effect one and two does something impressive by having the ability to use the character you used in the first and have there choices and bring them into the second game .
