I think it's actually alot closer to 7 billion, which makes your point understated.

Surely that's only people registered as being alive? I am sure there are plenty more whose lives have not been put into the "system" so to speak.

Even if you are not literally the only one, you can still use the expression. And if your not allowed to use an expression because it's not true, are we not allowed to say "Holy crap" then, because there is no such thing as "holy" crap.

People's problem with that expression is not whether or not it is literal or not it is that it makes the user sound pretentious. you might as well say "Surely since I am such an intelluctual no other person has felt the same way as I have."
