Am I weird in this?

For whatever reason, I have this odd quirk when it comes to games that are "open world". I absolutely love whenever the landscape is "phased".

For those who don't know what I mean: by phasing I mean when you complete a specific objective and the world (or just a small area) is permanently altered by it.

My favorite quests in all of World of Warcraft were the ones that added phasing, starting officially in Wrath of the Lich King. Icecrown and the Death Knight starting zone had this in spades.

My two favorite quests in Oblivion were the Battle for Bruma, where the wreckage of the siege engine remains, and the final quest, where the Temple District was damaged and the dragon statue had taken form in the Temple of the One.

My most recent experience in this is the town of Tri-Stone in Darksiders 2. You make various additions to the city as the questline towards the beginning of the game continues (leaving it at that, seeing as the game is very new).

Anyway, is it weird that this seems to be the stand-out thing in open world games that I always love? If you gave me a open world game where every quest had a sort of permanent result like that, then it would be my favorite open world game of all time. Does anybody else get intense enjoyment out of it?

EDIT: I realize this is a pretty cut-and-dry topic, so I'll add another layer, as it were. Can you think of an open world game that has phasing that you enjoyed?

I'm fairly certain most people enjoy the game landscape, such as it is, to change and reflect their accomplishments.

Do you think TF2 would remain as popular as it is if it wasn't for hats?

People like to feel that they made changes to the game world

Okami, Infamous, Saints Row the Third, etc. have had some elements of phasing, I believe
