As an American, I had no idea that France still employed the guillotine in "private matters". So if I committed a crime worthy of the death penalty, I could request a beheading? How elegant.

...okay they stopped in 1977, but I am certain with the right paperwork and signatures I can work this into the process somewhere...if someone angered me enough and we had to duel on Saint Micheals Island...okay I am going off with this.

"Executions by guillotine in France continued in private until September 10, 1977"

Or so it seems anyway.

edit: it seems most people don't know I mean >_>
yes, most people know that, and also the fact that there are 3 Statues of liberty

France hadn't had a tornado in 75 years until recently, and everyone was out in the streets looking at it and had no idea what it was :D

That, that is both worrying and highly amusing at the same time. Considering there has been no Brit ones yet, I shall contribute- "The Monarch of Britain can still declare war, if she wanted to", and "England absorbed Scotland to become Great Britain after it fell deeply into debt". About France, it is the only country that still (as far as I know) has a foreign legion. And Russia (not sure whether it is amazing but a lot of people seem ignorant of this)was never technically communist.

Also if you put a frog into a pan of cold water and heat it up, the frog won't jump out and will die. I know that's not a country fact but it's still cool! (in a kinda' macabre sense)

I doubt that's a credible source, is it?

It's hilarious either way.

It's a fairly common one but, in England a pregnant woman can request a policeman remove his hat so she can urinate in it.

Apparently there are more chickens than people in England.

Also in Switzerland it is illegal to produce, store, sell and trade absinthe, but it is legal to consume it.

This is one of those weird laws. In Alaska it is illegal to push a moose out of a moving airplane. I guess that wouldn't apply anywhere else in the country.

There are two odd laws I know of in Chicago;

1-It's illegal to eat in a burning building.

2-It's illegal to tie a giraffe to a streetlight.
