I'm actually mostly fine with Avi Arad, so ... still no to that idea. Sony Pictures really needs some severe restructuring.
sony in general needs a giant restructuring considering how they're anticipating on posting a multi-billion loss for the year. AGAIN. It's actually pretty fascinating how Sony went from top of the world at the turn of the millennium to a money-burning mess.

On one hand, it be hard to top the 1993 masterpiece that barely even had elements of the games (but did have some of the Italian-American stereotypes of the Mario Bros. Super Show). On the other, this is Sony Pictures we speak of here. They did the same mistakes, that made them feel like rebooting Spidey movies after Raimi left, two movies later. I can see a draft script having Mario and Luigi going on a darker and edgier revenge spree against turtles and walking mushrooms.

Of course, I thought Big N gave up on Hollywood Mario movies after what happened with the 93 movie and altogether after the Metroid movie languished in development hell for years. (The latter's core concept is probably even less filmable than the former.) Arad would have to either find a way to bio engineer real life Pikmin for Miyamoto or spend all of Sony's remaining money to convince them. Even if this deal got though with any studio, Nintendo should have final creative control at all times, just so we don't get another movie with spay painted super scopes turning people into monkeys.

Well... It's not like he could make it worse, right? I mean the original movie was god-awful, so in theory, he can only go up... But I hope he doesn't get it, because I HATE the Amazing Spiderman movies and I don't want to bring that down on any other franchise.

Plus the designs for the villains makes me want to vomit (looking at you Green Goblin).
What, you mean you don't like the Harry "Vladmir Harkonnen" Osborn look? What on earth is wrong with you? *massive sarcasm*

I think a 3D animated feature could be good, if it stays true to the spirit of Mario.

I imagine a trailer where it shows Mario speeding through Goombas and Koopas, entering the castle, taking down the boss, reaching the prison cell only to find a Toad, to which Mario says "Let me guess, the princess is in another castle?"

If this movie does end up coming to fruition, can it be based on that one comic book series Linkara(?) talked about?

Other than that, why do I think this movie could go down the same path as Scott Pilgrim vs The World concept-wise?

Why?
Why the fuck people want to make movies out of games?
"I know 57 previous attempts sucked, but this time..."

I dunno, the Mortal Kombat movies will always have a special place in my heart. It got across the spirit of the games quite well. Prince of Persia was actually a pretty good adaption and a fun film in its own right too.

Of course the best example of success goes to Resident Evil. I might not be into it, but the series is definitely well-received by many.

PoP had barely any story to begin with (dude in white clothes get thrown into prison and must save some chick- never finished it, ran out of time at level 11)

As far as I know about RE movies, they barely follow plot of games (maybe for good)

And we all have special place in our hearts for Mortal Kombat and Street Fighters, but these movies still suck :)

NO. Abso-facking-lutely not. I don't care about the previous movie at all compared to all this.

But the idiots who made those awful Amazing films are NOT going to touch the Brothers Plumber.
