Because Amazon has a pre-order guarantee that you pay whatever the lowest price is between pre-order and release. If they set it way too low then Amazon would have to sell it to you for far less than it's worth.

They've priced it so high because they know it will get lower.

EDIT: BTW The Xbox One is £399 on Zavvi [http://www.zavvi.com/xbox-one-console/xbox-one-console-new-xbox/10807959.html] & so's the PS4 [http://www.zavvi.com/ps4-hardware/ps4-new-sony-playstation-4/10765997.html]
Fair enough, but If I'm honest, I still don't want one no matter how cheap they get.
Well I don't want an Xbone either, I just don't think they'll cost £600 :p

I'm personally expecting PS4 and Xbox One games to be around the same as Wii U games, i.e. the big budget triple A titles will cost up to £44.99 RRP, while other games will be around a tenner less.

Of course, this is still an increase on the prices of the previous generation, which are already too high for my tastes. Unless a game is console exclusive I just buy the PC version; I have my system hooked up to a big 50" widescreen and there's a 360 gamepad plugged into it, so not only is the playing experience the same as if I were using a console, the graphics are better and I may well have the ability to use 3rd party mods.

If a game is an exclusive I either buy it second hand or wait a few months for the price to drop. I think the only exclusives I bought on the day of release were Uncharted 2 and 3, and in fact I'm waiting on news of an Uncharted 4 before I place my PS4 pre-order.

1 pound = 1 euro = 1 US$

If it ends up being sold at this price in retail, that'll be the death of the XBone.

My PC cost me less than that (about the same if you factor in the price of the 32" flatscreen LCD TV), and I have 2 graphics cards and more RAM than the XBone. I also have a stable OS, and my PC doesn't become a brick without internet. I didn't want to buy a X360 because of the red ring of death issue and the XboxLIVE subscription fees (and even then you still get bombarded with ads), now that Microsoft have proven that they can't be trusted to do things right (and this was my judgement before I knew how much it'd probably cost) I won't buy an XBone either.

Um...no it does not. 1 pound sterling is equal to 1.18 Euros, and 1 euro is equal to 1.30 USD. Pound to dollar is 1=1.52.
I know (dang, thought the Euro was still 1-1.4 to the US$). I was just trying to point out the stupid business logic that is often employed to make Europeans pay more than is actually neccessary.

Yeah, we usually end up paying the same number as the US, exchange rate be damned (as in, a console that cost $300 will usually be priced at ?300 here).
