Some benchmarks. Keep in mind these marketing numbers. As always, wait for the independent analyses.

While I think it’s odd that it’s 16GB across the board - though I think maybe some 3060/6600 style cards may be seen with 12GB - it does seem like a better amount that going 8, 10, 24 as it does with the current 30XX series. The 3070 should have been a 12GB card, the 3080 a 16GB.

Of course, AMD’s drivers could be a big pile of smelly poo again and torpedo an otherwise potent hardware lineup. But I like to think they won’t.

Yeah, it's kind of weird. While I can't remember exactly where, I've seen the regular 6800 referred to as "up to 16GB", so maybe there'll be cheaper versions of the card with less vram?

Agreed, while the 3080/3090 have faster GDDR6x vram giving them significantly more bandwidth than any of the AMD cards, how much is quality going to matter when games will be rubbing up against 10GB at 4K soon, if they aren't already. There was this rumor of 3070/3080 SKUs with 16GB and 20GB, but those have seemingly been cancelled, tho that is in itself also a rumor.
Maybe they're saving it for the inevitable 3000 Super refresh come next autumn or something.

The only issue with that now is that it will be interpreted as nVidia playing catch-up because they shot their load early and then AMD came in and basically created a new baseline for them to operate from. To say nothing of their ongoing issues with supply. Even if the Ampere cards are better, it’s going to mean sod all if we can’t get our mits on them.

So when are they releasing the deets on the budget ones? Each one of these cards is probably worth more than I'd spend on a whole PC.

Also I always find it funny that Borderlands 3 is always the worst performer. It didn't look like a very demanding game.

No real talk about that from either camp yet. Tho on the Nvidia side, the 3060ti has been all but confirmed and news through the grapevine is an MSRP of $400. Rumored to be on par with a 2080. Still not exactly budget priced tho.

That's what I was looking for. I was hoping for a like $200 budget card with the new architecture.

I remember getting all excited when they released the 1050 /1060 and the 470(?). Then I went off to college and never gamed ever again. Even if the new budget priced ones are still expensive, I'm hoping they'll knock down the previous generation ones to crazy good prices. I don't need 4k gaming, hell I don't even need 1440p gaming.

If that be the case, I’ll stick with my GTX 1080 and wait for the Supers. Not like I had much choice after the less than complimentary report my plumber gave me about our mains pipe >.>.

"When is a good time to upgrade?" The bane of pc gamers everywhere.

But yeh, if Nvidia is doing another 'Super' refresh, I bet that vram is mysteriously going to increase.

Pricing is going to need to be very competitive if they don’t want to be burnt at the stake for buggering up the VRAM allotments in the first run.

What's the price comparison between "equivalent" cards from Nvidia and AMD? I've been waiting a couple of years now to see what prices would look like when AMD caught up to raytracing tech.

Well, at their basic level the nVidia cards are as follows;

RTX 3070, 8GB - $500+
RTX 3080, 10GB - $700+
RTX 3090, 24GB - $1500+

And the AMD cards are;

RX6800, 16GB - $579+
RX6800 XT, 16GB - $650+
RX6900 XT, 16GB - $1000

So at the lower end AMD is more expensive but it has double the VRAM making it overall a better deal. Ditto the mid range, beating the 3080 by $50 and 6GB of VRAM. The benchmarks AMD are putting out show on par or better performance across the board so far. However the wisest thing to do is wait for real world benchmarks. Like for me personally, I'll take a 3080 with less RAM but verifiably some of the most stable drivers in the business. However AMD really have dunked on nVidia with this 16GB VRAM, with only the obscenely priced 3090 having more.

Eh, as someone not moving beyond 1440p for, well, possibly ever, anything over 8 GB VRAM doesn't hugely matter for a few more years. Kinda disappointed by those prices, I was hoping for a more reasonable mid-range. I guess I'll have to see what the 3060 equivalent looks like.

Honestly don't know where to go from my 2070 Super for my tower's upgrade in the next year or two but the competition is nothing but good things for those of us who can wait.

(I bought in January, no regrets as I was able to play games again)

Okay, well, AMD are in the same ass boat as nVidia in Australia in terms of supply and stocks. That is to say, sweet fuck all.

Yeah, it's not unusual for availability of new tech to be a crapshoot for a few months, tho this time it's rather severe, for obvious reasons. Most probably doesn't help there's 4 major launches within a short timeframe. One might argue one or more could've/should've delayed, tho as it stands, reality has effectively imposed one on all of them.

Yeah I know, but on a somewhat positive note, the review sites and blogs will be resplendent with reviews and benchmarks for the cards because the lucky sod baskets who got their hands on them probably won't be able to resist showing them off. So, honest performance numbers ahoy I guess.
