We can complain about whatever we want!

Freedom of Speech! In your face!

But seriously, I'm not complaining. If something's out of my price range, I won't buy it. If I truly do want something, I'll save up for it....

Well thing is in the UK its all about special offers and deals you could when they have it in stock get MW 2 on 360/ps3 for £26 which ridiculous then again when comes special edtions we got shot in the foot.
Here (in NZ), special editions can be ludicrously over priced, the Assassins Creed 2 Black Edition for example, when I saw the pre-orders for it in September was around 180 - 190 dollars.

However, given the amount of time it takes to finish games these days (with some very rare exceptions, generally less than a day), the price is almost disproportional to the cost of 100+ Dollars. When I lived in the UK, 20 to 30 Pounds was reasonable for the entertainment time given.

Either way, unless it's a game I -really- want, I'm down to renting can't argue with 3.50 - 5 dollars, for a 7 day rental.

I want developers and publishers to make lots of money so the buisness will thrive and they will make more games. I won't complain.

Complaining is the right and duty of all Americans, and don't you forget it!

(Plus, that seems to be about the only thing we're good for nowadays.)

And on the subject, $60 isn't too bad considering how much gets put into it. Sure, other forms of entertainment may cost less, but you (usually) can get more out of a game than you could a DVD.

I've been browsing the net for a while now and it seems that many American's have their panties in a bunch regarding a $60 price-tag for most games. When PC games are raised to this price the uproar can be heard all the way over here in New Zealand. Never mind that the PC is the best experience for almost all games and should theoretically cost MORE than the console versions for that. But I digress!
In New Zealand games retail for around $110. AAA releases retail for more than that(Arkham Asylum was $120, Modern Warfare 2 was something around $140-$150) and so on. You can find deals that will usually get the better titles cheaper(I got MW2 for $120) but my point still stands - games are ridiculously expensive.
I did a little more research because we cannot simply look at the nominal prices of games, we have to look at average incomes. So i pulled a few articles up on the net and I found the median average household income of US residents and NZ residents. Seeing as the RRP of NZ games is twice that of US games, I figured for it to be fair that the average incomes should be somewhere around double that in New Zealand. I was wrong. The average American income is something around $46 000, while the average NZ income is more like $62 556. This means that it is around 1.35x higher in New Zealand, nowhere near enough to justify the gargantuan prices on our games. As an added kick in the nads, playing in New Zealand on peer-to-peer is an absolute nightmare as the host is almost always based in none other than the USA, meaning my MW2 matches are about 2 bars every game, which basically renders the knife useless because of the lag. When I finally host a game everybody else leaves because they are all stuck on 1-2 bars.
To add discussion to this thread I'd like to hear from people from other countries(Canada,UK etc) to talk about prices of video games/average wage in their countries to see if it's not just NZ being shafted.

Ok so this is just troll thread for Americans but with a totally pointless start.

Try again.

Yeah, it just annoys me when everyone complains. If you don't like it, do something about it.

honestly, I dont really buy many games these days, because of the expenses for it. Instead, I take things like GameFly or another service to keep new games coming around, and I can get the same game again when I want to play it again.

Im satisfied with it

But complaining it the foundation of American culture!
Really ? Though more case of you didn't like tea
they didn't like paying crazy taxes for tea.

They loved drinking tea. It was like crack to the american settlers.

They didn't, however, like paying taxes that went back to england with no benefit of their taxes being spent in their settlements.

I guess you Ausies and Zealanders don't know any minorities who steal games and sell them cheap.

At current exchange rates, the price I pay for a game works out to 65 AUD. I always assumed a significant difference in exchange rate was to blame and apparently I was wrong. My condolances to all who live in the land down under.

I am curious about prices for non-americans though. Do prices fluctate much? In the US they tend to only trend down, so do they ever raise unexpectedly in other places or is this rare?

It's $60 at my local EB Games in Calgary. It was $60 when the U.S. price was $50, and now both are $60 apparently, as it's reached parity. It's great to hear that Americans are complaining about it, but are they really? Most probably just accept it and buy it. You just hear the loudest people, most people in the U.S. are probably not complaining. To anyone who is, shut up.

I use Gamefly, it saves me so much money. I never complain about the prices of entertainment and luxuries (you know, cause they are expendable), but I will complain about the middle class wages. Our earnings have not kept up with the cost of family expenses over the years and eventually a single person will not be able to survive on the income of one job.
