No, the USA as a whole is not a shithole because the crime rate in certain areas is high due to poor social politics and liberal gunlaws in certain areas.

I also find it hard to make a point sometimes (mostly because it's the internet and people see you as text rather than a person typing at college between classes) and people take the exception as the rule (ore believe documentaries not about nature) or misuse statistics (which can be bent either way all the time).

So basically everyone has their own opinion about everything and their own reasons and will not likely be swayed by piss contests (which is what most things on the internet come down to because it's the internet...).

EU is home to Scandinavia (Canada-is-America's-hat-translation: Norway, Sweden and Denmark) the countries with the most well functioning society models on the planet.

USA has also the highest annual murder rate in the world with about 11,000 deaths. In comparison, the 2nd highest annual murder rate is Germany, with 60 to 80. This alone is reason enough to never set foot in that hell hole.

Where do you get your stats? I have a really hard time believing there's that big of a difference between the 2 highest, especially when certain countries like North Korea and China can't be relied upon for these kinds of stats. I'm American, and I love my country, but I'm willing to admit we suck at quite a lot of stuff.
OT: I've argued like that before, but I've also argued that geography has nothing to do with the people who stand out in history in many cases. It's fun either way, as long as you keep it lighthearted and remember it's people that matter, not where their mother happened to be when she gave birth to you.

Most of the population doesn't want to join. Chunks of our own government doesn't even want to join. The government doesn't have any platforms to stand on if they don't do something right now and thus they are trying to act like they are doing shit by starting EU talks that they know will probably never actually happen.

Take my word for it that if the nation had to vote on if it should join the EU or not (and matters would be settled that way) it would vote no.

Also, if we had been in the EU at the time of the economic collapse we would be even more fucked now then we already are, so your claim makes very little sense.

Its funny I've lived in America for 19 years now and i have managed not to get all murdered and stuff.

OT: Really though, does ones country have any actual value to the person themselves? I can see that it has an effect on the development of a person, but its kind of like your parents, after a certain age you cannot blame your fucked up life on your country.

American beer is kinda... meh. Especially compared to proper English ales such as Old Speckled Hen or Spitfire.

And on another alcohol related note Scotch>Bourbon.

I'll give you Scotch, best whiskey in the world. Am I correct in assuming your exposure to American beer is limited to varieties of Budweiser, Miller and Coors? If so, you have my condolences. I recommend coming over here and trying a good microbrew, or at least a Samuel Adams. If you ever get a chance, try a Flying Dog. Best American beer I've ever tried, and I make it a point to be very picky about my beer. From my experience imports tend to be the worst a given country has to offer; for example I can't stand Heineken or Shiner, but I'm sure their respective countries have great booze to offer.

On a slight side note, before the end of the school term before summer I was bored and played aorund with google, typing in "Why do " and laughing at the suggestions which I can all assume were done mostly by Americans no matter what the nationality. The most popular suggestion for "Why do british people" used to be "Why do British people have accents?".

Depends on the situation. To me a heavy Swedish accent is the epitome of hilarious. As for American accents, I hear you on that. Nothing is more grating than a strong east Texas accent. Imagine the Beverly Hillbillies and Garth Brooks' voices got married and that's about right. On the other hand, the Southern US can be quite pleasing. I like watching stuff on the American Civil War to hear the letters the Confederate soldiers wrote home being read aloud. When reading aloud, that accent is really beautiful if done right.

Are you talking about words like neighbour/neighbor and colour/color? Because it was originally ou, but the Americans were too stupid to spell, so they had to change it.

I realize that I may be coming off as some nationalistic EU dumbass, but I want to assure you I'm not. I love the American culture, especially American TV and movies. I simply, for once, want to have a muture conversation about this topic, and see it as my duty to correct everyone like a damn factnazi.

Dude, you just quoted Wikipedia. That's like quoting the psychotic scrawlings you find on bathroom stalls. (speaking of which; when I was in London over the summer I found the discussions taking place on the walls of the stalls by speaker's corner very enlightening.) Putting aside that wiki is about as useful in an argument as beating your opponent over the head with an actual encyclopedia let me get on topic.

Why do the differences really matter at all? All something like this does is foster animosity between both sides of the argument and in the end accomplishes nothing more than leaving everyone more pissed off than when they started.
