Hey people.
When watching American TV-series like American Idol, I can't help thinking are Americans really this unable to keep track. Why would I need to know what happened 1 minute ago? I mean... I was there. I was watching your stupid show, don't waste my time anymore than you have to. Please.. just get on with it.. Geez..

I don't have anything against Americans in general.. I just think that their culture kind of sucks and is made for dumb people.

The reason for the recaps that seem to come from nowhere in the middle of episodes is that Americans have a shitload of commercial breaks.
They recap what happened before the commercials after each break.

Chances are, when the program is supposed to cut to commercials, your local tv station just skips that commercials and goes on with the show, so you're left with no break, but the recap still lingers.

And welcome to the escapist new 'un.
Stay out of the basement.

Putting the same stuff on over and over means they don't have to film as much. It's a really infuriating form of padding.

Supposedly it increase the tension as well.

Yeah, I used to wonder about that before I came to North America, then started watching shows and realized they put in about four or five commercial breaks in a half-hour show. Some of them cut to a commercial break, then come back on for the bloody end credits, or do the opening sequence then BAM! Commercial break. It borders on ridiculous.

That's why I rarely watch actual TV. Everything can be watched online, and they usually have far fewer ads.

Unfortunately, that's looking like it might be changing. God, trying to watch something on Fox's or MTV's websites is almost as bad as on TV.
