Did a little search for this and was shocked not to see any threads about this game, my reason for being surprised is that I've seen many members complain about the lack of real survival horror games in the industry (including Yahtzee and the extra credits team) whilst there is a company called Frictional games currently about to release their 3rd horror title.

Now I do partly understand why noones heard of this company as they are a small indie company but still I'm surprised that they haven't been pulled up with the topic of survival horror is kicking around. Now the two previous games made by Frictional are the penumbra series (1&2)(Which are also both very good and worth checking out).

Amnesia is the latest game from these folks and after playing the demo I'm sold to buying it now here's why. You cannot defend yourself from monsters, your only choice is to either run or hide. But here is the problem there's something lurking in the darkness so if you hide in the shadows for to long there's a whispering and your sanity begins to slowly drop until your absolutely mad (and erm dead). One part of the demo which caused me to fill my pants was when the lower basement was a tad flooded, but to touch the water was to attract the thing in it. The thing is you can only hear splashing towards you for aslong as your in the water but when it gets close you cannot see it only the footsteps it makes and now you've got to some how get from one side of the basement to the other without touching the water...

Anyway if you like horror games I'd highly advise you to download the demo before tomorrow when the game is released on steam (for £13 by the by)

Apologise in advance for the poor post but sadly work calls.

Wouldn't say Amnesia's completely unheard of around here. I saw a thread about the demo not too long ago. Needless to say, the demo is intense, and I was deeply enthralled for every second of it. I've already pre-purchased the game, and can't wait for it to come out. The fact that we shall be practically defenseless throughout the game is a real selling point for me.

Penumbra was awesome. One of the few horror games to actually scare me.

Played the Amnesia demo. Good stuff. Got the full game on pre-order.

I just wish Frinctional would change their control system. Playing their games occasionally feels like trying to use a mouse like a Wii mote.

I'm still working on Penumbra: Overture (first one). So far it's really good although I've only seen dogs and spider enemies (now in the 3rd area I guess - after using the big tunneling machine). But I like the puzzle solving and everytime a dog sees me it's always like "OH SHIT OH SHIT OH SHIT". Although sometimes I get away by whacking it with the pick axe, and then running and hiding lol. But yeah while I'm not finding the game really scary, it does have it's moments that get my heart beating. Like when the huge worm thing came through the door... oh man. Got eaten the first time lol.

They are the only enemy types in the game.

I'd love to play their games with motion controls. Maybe they'll be on PS3 or 360 someday. Wii is too low res for me.

Anybody know if motion controls are possible for the pc?

You can use Wii remotes on PC with a small amount of tinkering and a bluetooth adapter.

I really liked that bit of the demo. I especially liked how
you could throw objects into the water and the monster, whatever it was, would go investigate.
This game screams polished, Preordered & waiting for release eagerly.
Also, the control scheme is spot-on.

Now this game looks pretty dang interesting... Must check out the demo soon. The youtube videos looked great, proper tense "Oh god what's there?!", not "lets kill dem zombies hurr hurr"

Say, how big are these spiders? I've been wanting to play it, but I dunno if there's spiders in it.

I did a review of the game. If anyone wants to read it, it's here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.230752-Review-Amnesia-The-Dark-Descent]

Other than that. It's the freakiest game I've ever played. Highly recommended!

Not very big, but if real they'd be larger than a tarantula for sure. They're pretty creepy tho, they jump at you to attack.

I'm most of the way through Penumbra Black Plague now, I'm finding this one scarier because the enemies are mostly these really creepy zombie-like things.
