Mostly psychological, but it has a jump scare or two.

It has jump scares, but they're usually just to fuck with your head (e.g. dust comes up as a piano that was playing slams shut but there's no monster around). Actually, the entire game plays with the atmosphere. Sometimes tension builds with no real threat. Sometimes there's a sudden burst of tension and danger when you didn't expect it. Sometimes an entire area will be dangerous.Mutilator7 said:I want to try this game, is it a jumpy kind of horror game or more psychological one?
VERY much psychological, it has the odd jump scare, but a tremendous amount of the horror and fear comes so much from your own imagination. The monsters themselves aren't actually all that scary when you get used to them, it's the genuine fear that the situation places on you.Mutilator7 said:I want to try this game, is it a jumpy kind of horror game or more psychological one?
this video pretty much sums up my reaction to amnesia.ELD3RGoD said:;__;
Need I say more?
I'm so scared right now.
Any tips or stories?
LMAO! Yeah, Yatzee would call that immersion. When you forget that real life is NOT the game you were playing...The game has done its job!KafkaOffTheBeach said:This. So much this.
I played this segment at 3am after a mild night of drinking. At one point I needed to take a toilet break, so I walked to the door and looked out at the dark, empty corridor that leads to the toilet in my apartment building. Fucking SPRINTED there and back, before sitting and watching the door, before realising what I was doing.
Lol...That would have scared the crap out of me.KafkaOffTheBeach said:I got a blast of a full-surround monster voice - indicating that he was fucking close, but not precisely indicating where. Sprinting up the steps, I turned around and slammed the door before hearing it again. Louder. And I could definitely tell the direction this time.
I took one hit as I ran back through, sprinting down the stairs as fast as I could.
Oh God yes. Play with headphones, and at night with no one in the house if possible. I'm actually just going to start a 2nd playthrough now that you guys have mentioned it...Zhukov said:That game turned me into an instant fanboy.
Hands down the scariest thing I've ever played. Bricks were shat. Frequently. The prison and the torture chambers stand out in my mind.
Oh yeah, you know how people say that Amnesia doesn't rely on "BOO!" scares? Well, that's true. However, there is one in the game. A good one. It made me fall off my chair.
As for tips, if you have some decent headphones then wear them. The game uses sound a lot.
Haha I remember going through all of those partsFranBunnyFFXII said:snip
