I picked up Armoured Core: V recently, and personally, I don't think it is a good game. My main problems with the game are the following.

#1. The game feels almost as slow as Chrome Hounds when compared to AC:4A. This eggs me because I am used to piloting a light AC and running circles around slower opponents.

#2. The new damage system ruins a good portion of the game for me. Wouldn't be a problem, if the weapons selection was so small.

#3. Weapon deterioration has almost never worked in any game.

#4. The learning curve resembles a brick wall for online play, while the missions are piss easy.

#5. AC games aren't renown for their complex stories or plots, but at least you could understand what was going on early on, and had a few memorable pilots. AC:V gives you no explanation of what you are doing, or even who your actually working with.

#6. Unless you have a friend who bought the game with you, the game seems very empty.

What are your critiques on the game?

Well I've only seen the demo being played and I haven't played much of the others.
It's true that the game is stupid slow for some reason, now I wouldn't mind if that means you got shit to manage/prepare/carefully position and aim but you don't, the mechanics are almost the same it's just really slow.

But mostly it just fails with horrific on screen effects, you can very quickly get the entire view filled with flashy shit that will straight up prevent you from playing properly, and the absurdly large UI covers up most of the screen when other shit isn't in your way.

Those two things alone are enough to keep me from ever going near it, whoever designed this game clearly didn't have the game part in mind.

The main story of the game was pretty underwhelming, save for mission 9. I did really like how the side missions branch off into a story of their own though which is in my opinion more interesting than the main arc.

I prefer this piloting to the one used in 4 and 4A. It's more tactical and you can't rely on speed alone to win your battles. I use a light weight reverse-joint AC that ambushes enemies while they're distracted by my teammates. Rips my enemies to shreds with heat rockets, they never know what hits 'em.

The online aspect of the game is awesome! If you're having trouble finding a team to play with, do mercenary missions and try to build relations with your clients. It's how I joined my previous group.

Speaking as someone who has played every game back to the PS1 era and believes that AC2:Another Age is the best mech game of all time, the series has been a heaping pile of shit ever since AC: Nexus came out. Funny enough that Nexus would be the franchise's last hurrah, considering it was a retrospective...

AC5 did nothing to change my mind.

Its not even out in the UK and Europe so i have no opinion on it.
Uh what? Yes it is, I own a copy.

On topic I think ACV average to below-average overall. My thoughts on it:

- The fact that all parts are very resistant to 1 damage and horribly weak to the other 2 essentially turns most missions into 'try once or twice to find out what the enemy is weak to, then use an AC based around that damage type.' (unless you face one of the cheating ACs that has ludicrous defenses vs anything)

- Plot doesn't make that much sense. first Story mission we're helping fight the Resistance, in the second Story mission we're aiding them without so much as a 'and you joined the resistance' line between them.

- I actually quite like the 'speed' of the game, but that could just be because I grew up on the PS2-era AC games.

- The Over-weapons are, if not always practical, then at least good fun to use (nothing like watching an AC whose given you some grief in the past disappear in an 80,000[footnote]For reference, the Heaviest ACs tend to have around 40-60,000 health.[/footnote] damage blast)

- The Stagger mechanic, good god. Heavyweights have always had it hard enough in AC games as it is (since Rank is determined by damage taken and NOTHING ELSE like how fast you did it or how many enemies you killed), now you're telling me we can be stunlocked to death by anything with missiles or a (Sniper) Cannon?

- I like being able to 'boost kick', since that can help save ammo against enemies who are slow/immobile but have a lot of health (like the AC choppers)

- Why is almost every enemy referred to as an 'AC' now?

It's ok-ish, but still the worse AC game by a long shot.

I have hardly played that terrible game because I am still annoyed. I bought pretty much just to play multiplayer with my American and Canadian friends(I'm British) and now I can't because they god damned region locked the game!

well that went under my radar. haven't seen anything of it at all other then the announcement trailer. explains why its feel empty online.

EDIT: just looked on GAME website (as shop mostly in their store for my games) and they don't have it, nor have I seen it in any other store i go to (CEX, HMV, and a couple of indie shops). so yeah, might have bought it if they actually distributed it.

I was hugely disappointed by it. The controls were just bad.. It killed it for me insanely fast. So i traded it back in for something else.

GAME didn't seem to have it when it launched, so I bought it from Blockbuster.

OT: I thought it was ok. Haven't done online. I wish the customisation was more welcoming and there were more story missions. Other than that, I like it.

Every AC since like 2 has been a huge disappointment to me. Every once in a while I'll get one hoping they recaptured the magic only to be disgusted.
