Name an FPS, say a problem you have with it, and think of a way to solve said problem.
How about you start with an example?

FPS: Everything new in The Orange Box
Problem: Won't play on my computer past; double-clicking the icon, start of a game, and first portal respectively
Solution: Copy all important data off of my computer, shoot it, replace with a better computer using XP instead of Vista

FPS: TF2
Problem: Pyro is a hard counter to many classes.
Solution: Soldier, against backburners. Heavy against Pyros, esp. Natasha (keeps enemmies at range just as suggested) Medic with Blutsauger... There are plenty of ways to counter a Pyro!

Ok, but lets look at the big picture. The FRAG FX is a big step in the right direction.

Anyway,

The FPS: Resistance 2 and Resistance Fall Of Man
The Problem: Not enough people paid attention to the ARG, and thus some reviewers have called the plot of both weak.
The Solution:?
Wait what? People said the plot in that game was weak? Resistance had one of the most well told plots of videogame history. There was at least one cutscene per level, along with that black and white stillshot nonsense. It was full of good storytelling.

Just letting you know, cutscene-per-level quotas aren't exactly indicative of how well a plot is told in a game.
Which is why I said it was full of good storytelling right after that. They were all good cutscenes, and there were a lot of them.

FPS: Any FPS
Problem: Bad guy
Solution: Pull trigger

Or, more seriously:

FPS: Any FPS
Problem: Punk-ass sniper keeps putting a f*$%ing bullet in my god-damn head!
Solution: Guided Missile applied liberally to the forehead.

FPS: Half Life
Problem: Not available in a hard copy any more
Solution: Move out of Australia
Don't know where you're from but I could've sworn I saw the Anthology in the shop the other day (UK). Otherwise go to a Games Exchange or similar, somewhere must have it.
Uh, I live in Australia. If I didn't, then why would I need to get out of the country?

FPS: FEAR
Problem: AI is too good; it keeps kicking my arse
Solution: Get better at the game

FPS: Call of Duty 4
Problem: Not enough single-player.
Solution: Stop pumping so much time into multiplayer and give us a good single-player experience. The gameplay was great, this is one of my favourite FPSs of all time, but it felt really short. I completed it in a weekend, this is not good.

Halo 3

Weapons no more powerful than angry flashlights and pellet guns - i.e. people running at you with a hammer and after emptying a mag of machine gun ammo on their head, they smash you; not enough rockets and too many snipers; aside from a few weapons, everyother gun in the game is useless

go back to playing UT3 or Vegas 2. hell, i might even do the first halo's single player campaign.
