Dear Escapist

I really need your help. I'm about to buy a Full HD television. I'm about to put some properties of it down below. This is funny because I play games constantly and I honestly know almost nothing of televisions, especially of these complicated different versions of HD ones.

Medion MD 20136 (I already checked and it isn't listed anywhere on the company's site)

-Full HD
-16:9
-1920x1080

If you need more information, I'd be sure to write them down.

So with that information, I'd wanted to ask some questions that have been bothering me.

*Do I need to buy something else? (I heard I still need an HDMI cable or something?)
*If yes, what are the things I still need before I can play my games on my PS3?
*Does a television like that still support Light Gun Games?

Thanks in advance.

Yes you need a HDMI cable, spend about 20 euros for a good quality one.

After hooking up your PS3 to your new tele you may need to perform a refresh on the output, when on the correct channel (HDMI or PC) on your new TV if their is no image but the PS3 light is on then keep your finger on the power button until it starts to cycle through settings, it should find the image on its own.

Light gun games, no idea sorry.

An HDMI cable is an HDMI cable. You do want one, but DO NOT blow the bank on it. Cables are HUGELY marked up, and more money does NOT reflect better performance. a 30$ HDMI cable will perform exactly as well as a 130$ cable.

If you're fine with the TV speakers, then you won't need anything else than an HDMI cable to hook the PS3 up.

And do be sure to google as many internet reviews (especially pro ones from various tech sites) of whatever TV you're getting. There are a lot of things/specs which determine the quality of and HDTV (like contrast, color fidelity, black levels, calibration possibilities etc.) aside from the 1080p thing, and quality varies immensely between brands and models of TV's in virtually the same price category. Older top models are usually the way to go in my experience, as they usually far surpass the newer TV's available at the same price. I've heard mixed things about Medion's TVs, so I strongly suggest you check out general feedback on your particular model before committing to it.

About Light Gun games, it would seem that some are supported, as one has been released for PS3 with 720p support [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_Crisis_4], but it's a new model it seems, while many older ones won't work. So you may very well not be able to play PS2/PS1 light gun games on it.

You know what? Get your HDMI cable from eBay. I needed the xbox 360 HDMI cable so that I could have the audio cable that came with it, because I wanted to connect the xbox to my computer monitor; the cable would have cost me about $50 at any store, but I got it within two weeks from eBay for $1.35 + $8.00 shipping.

The only exception to this rule is if your going to use one HDMI capable for multiple things. I have a ps3, and a WD TV player both on my shelf below the TV. Whenever I use one I plug in the HDMI wire to that console, and if I wish to use the other I unplug it from one console and into the next. With a cheap HDMI wire you can break it after a while of plugging and unplugging, so if thats what your going to do don't hesitate to buy an expensive HDMI cable.
