This new show called An Idiot Abroad just aired in the UK and it is quite possibly one of the funniest things I've ever watched. The setup is so simple, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant (of The Office fame) send their friend Karl Pilkington to the 7 wonders of the world. If you've ever watched The Ricky Gervais show, you know right away this is a must watch show. For those not familiar, The Ricky Gervais show is basically animated podcasts that the 3 aforementioned people did, and it's basically Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant listening and laughing at what comes out of the mouth of Karl Pilkington, who is just pure comedy gold.

Here's a couple quotes from just the first episode:
After being told he's being sent to China by Ricky and Stephen, "Out of all the places, this is the place that I'm worried about the most. Just the way they live, they're different. They just wreck everything. They make everything weird, that's what I'm worried about. Chicken, why is it orange in Chinatown?"

Karl's take on the Great Wall of China, "Being honest with you, it's not The Great Wall of China, it's an alright wall; it's The Alright Wall of China."

Just me personally, but that sounds just awful.

Considering that the UK version of the office and the 6 bastardizations it spawned are equally as awful. There is a special place in hell for Ricky Gervais, where he is forced to watch the mediocrity he unleashed upon this earth on a continuous loop.

This is just my opinion as im sure people adore the shows or else they wouldnt be as popular as they are. I personally have yet to see anything remotely humorous about watching people awkwardly stumble over words and notions. Didnt find it humorous when Larry david did it, I havent found it funny when Ricky Gervais does it between the office, his standup routines, the abysmal film he was featured in, or the guest spots he does in television shows.

But onto the show. If the references illustrate how humorous this show is, Ill gladly take a pass as both references come off as incredibly mundane. If you heard one of your friends would say something like that it would prolly make you laugh, but it would be laughing at them, not with them, and really, thats just sad.

No offense to you Suki, but that's one of my pet peeves here. Why does he have to arbitrarily tack a question onto the end of that? Is it too much to ask that people think for themselves about what to discuss here?
Because if you don't there won't be any activity, as you can see by this desolate thread, my dear. Obviously, a thread needs to have a proper question, not the rubbish I threw in, I just did so to make a point.

That's true, and it makes me sad. Remember when people could think for themselves and not have to be spoon fed everything?

Hey, can I borrow your doomsday island? I have a apocalypse brunch I need to plan.
Well, it is currently on time-share, so I'm sure I could squeeze you in just after the weekends?

No, btw. I do not remember the time when people could think for themselves, it's just too long ago (or they have always been idiots). Luckily, a few bright stars (like us) stand out amongst them, and so we will continue doing until the stupid man blows us up with their arms of nuclearity. *cough* Thats a word now.

Indeed. Suppose every one here would create a thread about themselves hyping a new show/movie/album they are excited about.

The only thing that came to my mind is that, many of the seven wonders of the world are no longer visitable, or do exist for that matter. And regarding the modern seven wonder of the world, well, there isn't a single global agreement on that matter. No specific universal list of which seven would be the new wonders.

And that's neither interesting nor closely related to the topic, so I've just made a bad thread worse. Pardon.

I'll need to fill my lungs for this;

*ahem*

What?
What's what and what's not clear? All I know it's 5:30 in a matter of minutes. And I'm not any of the seven wonders of the world, as far as I know. They'd send a letter or something, right?

Karil pilkinton isnt funny, just acts like a fucking retard.

and as for Stephen merchant or whatever the dicks name is, he's less funny than ricky gervais, and i didnt think it was possible. So, no, none of his shows for me.

Really? I promise you, there used to be people willing to use that mushy crap in their skulls occasionally. Remember, I'm old! And I like nuclearity! Since I am not creative enough to create words, I shall further derail this with a nonsensical pic

Your poster. It tells the truth.

Wow, the topic is to DISCUSS the show, why do I need a question? This board is about discussing moives, music, TV shows, and everything else. There are several threads in this forum about a movie or show. Also, the game board has threads about a game as well.

Have to be honest, I can't stand Gervais. He's arrogant and is so far up his own arse it's unreal. I heard a radio interview about this not long ago and whenever the interviewer asked the other guy a question, Gervais would do or say something to draw the attention back to him, always him him him.

I won't even watch the show out of curiosity, as I'd hate to add another stat to the viewing figures so his ego inflates even more, if it's not at bursting point already.

Ricky Gervais is barely even in the show, and he barely even says anything in the show called The Ricky Gervais Show. In nothing that I have seen him in (The Office, Extras, The Invention of Lying, The Ricky Gervais Show) has he unnecessarily drawn attention to himself. His character in The Office did that but that was because of the character, Steve Carrell does the same in the American version.

It's not the characters I have a problem with, it's the man himself. The way he speaks and presents himself on interviews, both on radio and televised have me cringing at the sound of his voice.

Then again, different strokes for different folks, if people enjoy his humour or whatever else he does, fair play to them and I hope they enjoy it, it's just not for me.

I definitely find him funny in shows and movies. I saw him on The Tonight Show with Conan and he did seem kinda weird. loud, and laughing a bit much. I just chalked that up to him probably having a bit much to drink in the green room, but maybe that's close to how he is in real life.
