Well, that happens when you go to an educational institution. They tend to frown upon things you aren't 'learning' from, but dammit, what can't you learn in here that you can learn out in the real world!?

Exactly my point. Why should I go to school when I have the unlimited wealth of human knowledge at my fingertips?

I had two logins for the school internet. One was my heavily modded High School account, then I had the less modded TAFE account. Was on my TAFE account mostly for ebuddy and escapist. Thank you Escapist for making my free periods enjoyable *Gives Escapist monkeys a treat*

i absolutely despise when people sit on the school library computers and play flash games throughout lunch. To me it just feels like they are being huge nerds (this coming from a bigger nerd who loves Pen and paper games). They could be spending their lunch outside talking with their friends.

I still however think my schools blocking is so stupid, our Japanese teacher told us to go to a website for something and the site was blocked. that and the school seems to think the escapist and Deviantart should be blocked. I was talking to some of the tech people at my school though and i understand their reasons for deviantart.

I retrospectively feel your pain--my high school had ridiculous blocking.

My college, however, has campus-wide free wi-fi with no restrictions. Ka-ching!

While you're still stuck in the former, however, the first poster said it best: proxies are your friend.

with the right setup couldnt you use your home computer as a proxy? i would say tell the authorities that they fucked up, but they wont care and you will just end up being observed, thus heightening your chances of being cought.

Now I was in my media arts computer class today and I did my normal habit of things. I log into my hotmail and check my emails and the come onto the escapist to see what?s happening. Now, since I begun coming on this in august I would use this site as a source of entertainment during computer classes and the eventual spare. Just today on this very day I go to check up on escapist feeling like doing no work to find out my school blocked this site! How angry I was to find out a site I have been using since august or in school terms, since September blocked for the reason they say as ?forums? I almost broke into tears, yep that is right, almost put my fist through the monitor screen too. Why are they blocking this for forums though? Isn?t that just a maddening thing?

Have some comments my air escapist friends or do you have a similar thing happen to you at work or at school.
Do we go to the same School??????

Im at Franco-Cité in Sturgeon Falls, and they JUST did that, and blocked it for the EXACT same reason... lol

Read up on a little program called "Real VNC Server." I used it to get around a pretty solid corporate filtering program. Easy to setup, easy to use, and you'll be surfing whatever you want, on whichever computer you want, day and night, 24/7, 365!

We used have vertually all site blocked at school. But we found a way around it. Everytime someone descovered a new game site it became second habit to download everything they play and like, name it "Word Document" or the like, then post it around on the shared area, so everyone got it. The site would usually be blocked by the end of the week, but by then everyone had the decent games.

Thanks to this, I failed ICT and had to get everything done to get a pass on the last two days. It actually wasn't hard, I'd just never had a lesson where I'd done work.

They do it so you work and not just screw around. You can wait so many hours to get on the Escapist when your home or some where else when it's your time not there's

They did it at my school too.
I think I'm the only person in the school with one of these accounts.
I single handedly blocked the Escapist off my school network...

I'm quite proud actually XD

In our school, games and forums are a huge no-no, but lucky for me, the IT people at my school havn't reported this site yet, mainly because I am the only one on the school to actually use it.
