After some contemplation I can't help but raise the question; why doesn't this exist?
From a hardware viewpoint there isn't any limitation, as only recently a WoW-copy has been released onto tablet computers. Also it would be practical given that the 3DS requires a nigh constant wifi internet connection.
From a gamer standpoint I could get behind it. One of my main problems with MMOs, MMORPGs in particular, is that they seem to want every moment of your life from then on. The only MMO that hasn't seemed to feel this way was Guild Wars, mostly because I wasn't paying any monthly fees. To have one I can just pick out and play for an hour or an entire day without sitting at the computer would appeal to me.
Plus, what is one disadvantage of the DS that could work as a plus? Graphics. Many MMOs seem to substritute depth for graphical fidelity, and given hardware limitations this temptation could be removed on a handheld system. Yes I have seen how gorgeous some of the new 3DS games look, but thinking back on DS titles of the past I'd much rather see aesthetics of that kind in a massively playable world.
Of course this is merely daydream, but is it a dream worth having?
