I wear jeans all the time (before a smart arse says anything, no I don't wear them in the shower or in bed) and I also walk on average a mile a day.

What has started happening is a hole will form in my jeans left of the seem running from the front to the back, right between my legs.

The riddle is, how the fuck does that hole get there!? I don't think I am sitting in an unusual way to stretch the denim to ripping point and it's not like I keep a knife or blade next to my nuts to cut the jeans

It has happened to at least 4 pairs of jeans, since clothes aren't exactly cheap (for whatever reason) I am spending a fortune on jeans.

Any ideas to my quandary?

Maybe your junk is just too sharp?
Who knows?

But nah. What I'm guessing is that the repetitive motion of walking puts lateral strain on the threads in that particular area.
My jeans keep getting holes in the crotch as well.

Hey, I wear my jeans to bed. Nothing wrong with that.

Maybe it's chafing? Do your thighs rub together when you walk? Or perhaps they get torn in the wash. Four pairs of jeans over how long a period of time? It's probably just ordinary wear and tear. Do you not get any holes anywhere else?

I'd hazard a guess and say friction from walking causing the abrasion of the material?
Yeah, I am pretty sure it's that. I have a similar thing happen with my jeans and I almost always wear them when walking somewhere.

Well one of the pair of jeans I have had 3 months and they look brand spanking new, apart from where your heels are ('cos I always seem to buy jeans too long) and a hole in the crotch you could probably stick a beer bottle through ...

I guessed it was friction but the rate these holes seem to appear and in the exact same location, it's never the right side of the seem, just strikes me as odd.

I thought denim was meant to be a very strong material, compared to other clothing materials that is ...

I had a pair of jeans I wore to work every day. I could barely have them for a couple months before I noticed holes in similar places. My job had me walking, it didn't matter how tough that denim was because the constant rubbing of the same spots over and over just wore the material down.

In the end I switched to those reinforced cargos... man they were awesome.

Haha, it really is a mystery then. Perhaps you could just sew them up and carry on? It would save you having to repeatedly buy new pants. If it's right in between your legs it's unlikely anyone will see it even if you do a dodgy job. It depends on how far the tear extends though.

Jeans are supposed to be pretty strong, but it's possible the rough material is exacerbating the abrasion. Why not try buying some pants of a different material for casual wear and save your jeans for the more necessary occasions?

It's funny how much I am changing at the moment to be honest, from 2nd year in high school (about 12 years old) I wore nothing but black (except my school uniform), always wore jeans and always had steel toe caps on.

I am now 23 and last year I bought a red t shirt and a few months ago I bought a right orange hoody, I am wearing trainers and now you want me not to wear jeans haha.

I guess if I want not to be a poor person, with a shed load of holy jeans, I better stop wearing jeans.

I don't know why jeans are so popular to be honest. They're not particularly comfortable or in any way exceptional compared to other materials. If anything, they make scratching quite inconvenient.

They also cause a lot of bumps that are mistaken for boners tehehe.

I have contemplated buying other materials before but I struggle to think of other types of pants, there are jeans, combats/cargo, formal pants, polyester (which makes you look like a muppet) and those sweat pants fat guys wear 'cos they have a super stretchy waist band.

So it looks like it's either jeans or combats/cargo pants, trying to find either in black is a chore though. Oh well.

Which is why I think jeans are just so popular, the lack of variety is just forcing people to buy jeans.

There are also track suit and cords but I am not a chav or a supply teacher ...

To be honest I agree that it is probably lateral strain. But I just want to throw denim eating termites into the suggestion box for my own amusement if nothing else.

If its always to the left that suggests something specific about your gait, as it's likely to be caused by the seam rubbing against the left thigh.

I have been thinking the same thing now, as I have just got back from a 4 mile walk and my left thigh feels chafed. (with one "f" looks weird ...)

I shall have to get none jean pants in order to avoid this problem, thanks guys and gals for the help!
