image a freeroaming RPG (possibly MMO) where you play as an insect, you start of by creating your own custom insect with different abilities and as you play you can level up your insect. when creating an insect you only get 2 weapon slots, you can choose such weapons as a stinger, mandables, acid spray etc etc. i just think that would be a really cool concept as it fits the open-world theme really well and theres so much variety of "weaponry" amongst insects it means not one character would be the same. also there could be alot of different visual customisation as insects come in all shapes colours and sizes

do you think this is a good idea?

Considering the huge variety of insects, and the variety of insects in the world, this could work. I won't say if it will work, but the concept could certainly work. I remember Bugdom being a blast back in the day - it was an insect-based third-person platformer.

Pokémon was originally based on the Japanese cricket fighting scene. The variety of insect species in the world easily dwarfs the number of Pokémon by a ratio of 1,000:1.

bugdom was amazing, i remember that on Mac it was the only game we had at primary school

i think that ratio is probably nearer 100,000:1 i think it would be cool to create your own insect from a huge variety of options rather than simply select a preset one.

Finally, a use for that engine from Spore...
spore?
You don't know what it is? It was an attempt by Maxis to create an evolution simulator as a game. It allowed you to create your on creatures placing mouths, legs, arms, poison glands, web spinners, wings, etc. It all worked in 3D and then your creature could walk around and such. It looked amazing. Too bad the game part of the actual game sucked.

Yeah it was that one. It would be nice if the engine finally got used for a good game, since ,you know, it took like several years to make.

yeah that would be a good engine for an insect based RPG, you always got a random spinal structure so surely all insects will be different

Aren't they making Darkspore with that engine? No saying it will be a good game or anything, just that there is another game in the works using that engine (I think). Anyway, spore is what I thought of from the OP. It was conceptually awesome, but yeah I've heard it sucked, and you know it had that DRM.

SimAnt. You start as a queen. You become a worker, and can bodyswap as you wish. Your objective is really to take over the backyard, but you can do whatever. This could also be qualified as an RTS. It's a sim, but that doesn't mean there arent gameplay elements involved.

I've always liked games where you're tiny and tufts of grass are like trees. Bug's Life for the PS1 was great!

A massive RPG based around the same sort of environment would be awesome. It'd be something a little different, I haven't seen a game with that theme in ages.

*There was Minish Cap and a section of Okami but they lacked bugs ^_^

Well, since there's hundreds of species of insects, I'd say a game would have enough variety, foes and simple badassery to make it.

Now how do we convince the big companies to finance an MMO that's all about the bugs... badumsh!

This would be a great RPG, I can see myself power leveling as a Tick on a level sixty Bear, or entering the inner-sanctum of the honey-hive.

yeah there could be some really interesting locations

you just gave me an idea, you could define your power source when creating your charater so some insects get there power source form flowers and other (parasites) get there power from larger mammals.

You mean something like an expanded version of the Insectron game in Rogue Galaxy?

It'd be kind of cool, or you could have something like 'Deadly Creatures'.

Have a reptile faction, a insect faction, an avian faction.

Be weird as can be, but it sounds kind of cool.
