I suppose it is kind of saying no-one is too far gone to see they weren't really they hero just a villain who had gotten used to rationalising.

I did that on my first play-through. I was very pleased with myself, although I knew that wasn't going to be the end right there.

Well Saren isn't really the villian he is just a now tool being controlled by the Sovereign to do his bidding. Sure he wasn't 100% all there and good before but he wasn't some psychotic nut job that would wipe out all organic life. He only didn't like humans from what I remember.

Eroding other people's minds and getting them to kill themselves is awesome.

... and is punishable by law in most places.

=D

it was becouse he realized he was a tool of terror and the best he could do was shoot himself before he would be more manipulated

Yea I got that ending the first time I played through... think its the best ending for the real Saren. Bittersweet ending for a tragic character

I thought it was actually pretty awesome. I used Intimidate instead of charm though.

I didn't really care too much for Saren. He didn't really do all that much in the first place, besides killing some jackass spectre at the beginning. I didn't think there was all that much to him at all. Boring villain.

I always prefer playing as an asshole, so i never got to that paragorn option but i knew it existed. I tend to prefer pragmatism over heroic options.
It's nice to see how diplomatic skills are usefull up until the very end besides the usual vendor/quest help it can provide in most RPG's. Mass Effect 1&2 make very good use of this.
Guess what i did the first time i defeated the reaper in ME2 :)

I thought it was awesome. It happened to me first time around, and it really showed me a side of Saren's character. One which desired redemption even through Sovereign's control.

from what I got out of the "Ascension" book, Saren was a bit of a "Dirty Harry"-esque Spectre who was prejudiced against humans. Bit of a douche, but not the mass-murder type. I got that charm-result on my first playthrough, and I thought it was brilliant. Not to original, but it was still a great way to reward the player for investing points into non-combat skills.

I absolutely hate fighting Flying Saucer Saren in the Council Chamber, and the only time I ever did so was as a level 60 Soldier with an assault rifle I couldn't overheat even if I wanted to.

That's why I always charm or intimidate him into putting a bullet in his head. I've beaten Mass Effect seven times by the way, in case you were wondering why I routinize a once-per-playthrough event.

Loved Saren as a villain.
Same. That's what I felt was missing from ME2: A good villian. The collectors were just a group without a face. Saren gave you an equal, someone to compete with.

off topic here but YAY KIROV RUSH FTW
sorry had to be said
Off topic: As a fellow Kirov commander, I have to agree :) Look me up sometime if you want to play a round or two.

On topic: I'm surprised and pleased by the amount of feedback I got here. I'm glad most other people feel the same way I do about that ending. I may have to do a few more playthroughs at some point. However, in the meantime, I'm about to buy Mass Effect 2 tomorrow, so don't tell me anymore about it!
