It can only help.
People actually want phones.
As of right now, the psp pretty much does what your usual "smartphone" can do except make phone calls so for what it is, it's pretty well overpriced: especially the go.
By putting in a function most everyone uses now (the phone), there might be people who want the thing.

It's certainly an interesting possibility to think about, but come on: If the PSP Go couldn't kill the Playstation brand, what chance does a PSP phone have of doing the same thing?
The thing is, Sony can only afford so many PSP Go(es?) before the entire brand ends up in the gutter. And quite frankly, this "PSPhone" isn't looking to be much better than the Go.

Sony just loves digging it's own grave, doesn't it? First they overshot the market with the PS3, then overestimated the worth of DD with the Go, then found themselves pushing an outdated form of stereoscopic 3D and now this. Seriously, who needs enemies when you do a bang up job of doing damage to yourself?

I don't see this shooting down the Playstation brand, but I do see it as being a potentially stupid investment that could cost Sony a hell of a lot more than they'd make off it. Even a hardcore Sony fanboy would be really hard-pressed to buy something like this over an iPhone or a Droid. Also, the hardcore Sony fanboys already have PSPs. The more I think about it, actually, the less appealing this is as a product and the less of a market I see for it...

this psp phone is just going to be the first one to "test the waters" of its market. You know there is going to be a psp phone version 2.0 and then a 3.0 later just like the ps2, ps3 and psp. So why buy the first one when they're just going to make an upgraded version in about a year?
