^And this is why I was so ticked at Diablo 3's always-on DRM. When this kind of Internet is the only uncapped 3G available, I wonder where, exactly, that analyst is looking.

That's a big claim.Rednog said:I do, it pushes a greater demand on ISPs to provide faster and faster internet speeds. Seriously speeds in the US have become fairly stagnant because there really is no huge push to increase it.
Steam were not the first people to use internet activation...MS used it back in 98. Oh, times have changed! >.>Finally, this is becoming the standard for PCs already, it really is about time people just get on the boat, seriously people are saying that companies are going to lose a sale because they want a retail disc. Especially for the PC more and more discs contain very little actual game data, especially if it is for steam. The steam based games basically have some pre install information and a good chunk is just downloaded from the steam servers. And even then having the retail cd means less and less today. The days of pop in and play really don't exist for the PC, now its pop in and register with some DRM. That DRM goes down or bans you, you're shit out of luck, retail cd or not.
There better be. I have a 60 Gb harddrive for my 360, and I have yet to say to myself, "I need a bigger one". But I only have a few games that are digital only, and most of those are XBLA. Those take up space, but not nearly as much as a full fledged game like ME1. I also have several games loaded for the quick loading times. The idea of digital only games may be okay for PCs but would suck for console gamers like myself.mjc0961 said:If it's digital only, I'll wait until it's super cheap on Steam. After all, if I have to spend half a day downloading, I might as well save some money in the process.
And of course, what about all those people who can't download a copy? Yeah, I'm sure Rockstar is extremely eager to cut their customer base by denying a part of it their product. There will be a GTA V disc for consoles at the very least.
why though? WHY? is digital distrubution better? it just gives the cusrtomer less controll over their purchasesbabinro said:I'd like to see this...the sooner we shift all gaming to digital the better in my opinion.
The process will inevitably cost sales in the short term but I think it's best for the industry. We'd need a few big releases like GTA 5 to get people used to this practice anyways.
Realistically though I don't think this will happen. We probably wont see this until next generation consoles. Though for all I know GTA 5 is next gen.
