More jaded hate speech from a "hardcore" gamer. Again, when will people stop hating the Wii? Nintendo made some smart decisions involving how to spend their money and created a cost-effective console that doesn't have the same graphics as the other two. Big whoopdy doo. If better graphics equals better gameplay.. Yeah, I'd just shoot myself in the face and be done with it.

If the Wii reaches "market saturation," it will be in more than a BILLION homes (http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/med_tel-media-televisions) because their market is everyone, everyone who owns a TV. Lacks staying power? Are you kidding? The Wii is still outselling everyone else, the Wii is still making a lot more money, and the Wii will continue to hang around for some time yet.

The Wii is the cheapest console on the market right now, and soccer moms aren't going to stop buying games to babysit their kids for them just because of the recession. Remember, "parenting" is just a synonym for "get the kid to stop screaming," and video games are proven to keep them in one place for a while so parents can dodge the parental responsibilities that they should have considered before breeding.

The Wii is cheap and it's got games with a lot of bright pretty colors, so that's what they're going to buy to keep their kids in front of the TV where mommy and daddy don't have to pay attention to them.

Of course, there are some GAMERS who appreciate games with colors besides brown and gray as well, but of course according to the Escapist users, they're not "real" gamers.

Typical reaction. Typical missing the entire point of the story.

The point is, *if* the majority of purchases made for the Wii are for casual game users with no real brand loyalty, when the economy worsens, they may view video games as a luxury and thus, stop purchasing for it. Or at least stop buying as much for it. Since more of the install base for the 360/PS3 are not considered to be that same demographic, they will buy irregardless of recession.

Just because the Wii is successful now, does not mean the money will not stop coming in. But the grain of salt to take with this article is that it is merely speculation. I personally don't think Nintendo has anything to fear. Just don't spend all that money you made on golden rocket ships and platinum sofas and you'll be fine.

Nintendo Executive: Well, fellow board members it seems as if our sales of the Wii and DS have fallen 60% since last month

Other Nintendo Executive: So............... we still sold more than all the other consoles.

Nintendo Executive: Oh... oh yeah.
