What I never understood is this:

Why is it that in sitcoms like "Saved by the Bell" or "Family Matters" they would introduce the actors in the beginning, but then say for one person "Actor's Name" as "Characters name." Why do they do that for one character, but not the rest? And many times it's a side character, not a main character. Why is that?

Perhaps the character they are playing is only a recurring character/not a main cast member or the actor is not part of the main cast.

Not really sure, I cant remember that many sitcoms to be honest.

Star power for most cases. They do it for movies too. Take Robin Hood: Prince of Theives. Sean Connery is cast as King Richard, and during the intro credits, he's announced the same way. They usually do this with pretty big actors or names in order to hype them up.

Maybe they are famous for something outside of the show. Maybe they want to showcase the names of their good actors to rub it in the face of other shows, even though they never use said actor as a main character (this makes other shows even angrier you see bwahaha). But really, I don't know either to tell you the truth... I'm gonna go with they were previously more famous probably though.
