That's actually pretty damned impressive, for a home-brew hack/mod. Especially since the "official" API isn't available yet.

All I know for sure is, seeing that in action, and not as part of some company's show-reel to push a product, makes me far more confident in the Oculus Rift as a legitimate step-forward in VR-headset tech.

I had had some confidence in it based on the comments by Mr. Carmack and Mr. Newell, but this kind of demonstration solidifies it.

I may very well pick one up and try out this home-brew mod.

I was pretty skeptical at first but I've only been hearing good things about the Oculus Rift, I'd really love to try it out myself. Most seem to agree that it's great for immersion.

Imagine Fallout 3/NV with this thing. That could be really awesome. Also, dual-wielding.

This won't work for the same reason that kinect doesn't work (eeer one of the reasons kinect doesn't work), nobody wants to stand around playing games for a significant amount of time.

Nobody? Have you read the thread? I stand up with standard x-box controller rather than sit down and play. People are forced to sit down too much at work all day anyway, its good to be on your feet, it stops you being weak.

You are one of few; the vast majority want a sit down gaming experience.

Me and pretty much all of the other people responding to this thread. Plus it is already mainstream, Kinect, while I admit is not very good is selling well and has been doing for a long time now, also the Wii (which I do not own) has sold more than 98 million units, many more than xbox and playstation that hover around 74 million. (source - http://www.vgchartz.com/analysis/platform_totals/ )

Also note the top games sold with the Wii console (ignore Wii sports as it comes with the console) Wii fit, just dance and zumba take places 6, 10, 11, 16, 18 and 21, all standing up games, and many more through that list, but I wanted to demonstrate they are top sellers too. (source - http://www.vgchartz.com/platform/2/wii/ )

No minority here.
