Anders vs Templars? (Spoilerz)

I've asked this on gamefaqs but sadly I don't have the patience to wait until someone answers. I want to play Hawke as a diplomatic templar supporter, but I know that by the end of the game the only way I can survive is with a healer. And the only healer available is either Anders or Mage Hawke. Can you get to the end of the game and choose to support templars but keep Anders in your team as the healer? Otherwise an ending where you support the templars is going to be ridiculously hard.

I would say even on hard it is possible to outrun and healingpotion your way out of the last couple of fights. I did most of them with only my main character. Trust me, it is completely possible to finish up without a healer

I think there was a patch recently that lets you. You have to get the right dialogue options though, and I think friend/rivalship has something to do with it.
But healing potion spam works just as well to be honest.

I'm pretty sure that you can't. In fact, in you spare him too, you may have to fight him later according to the wiki.

Yes you can. Sebastian won't like it, and will leave automatically if you spare Anders, but I figure it's better to keep the bastard alive than let him live on as a Martyr for the psychotic Kirkwall Mages.

The only way that I am aware of (and it could be totally wrong) is that if you are in a romance with Anders and you've maxed it out. I saw a video of it, but I don't know if it's real or fake. I never really liked Anders, so I've never tested the theory. I do know that if you spare him and you're not in a relationship with him, he will come back and attack you if you side with the Templars.
If you still have Bethany, you can save her from Meredith at the end and she can take the role of healer for that final fight. Otherwise, Meredith acts as a tank and sort of as a healer when you attack Orsino.

Sorry dude, but he's a mage supporter all the way. You spare him, he's going to help the mages. Your only choices are to either go with a mage Hawke, or keep Bethany around as a Grey Warden (she only knows one healing spell but that's better than none)

Yes, this is true. But I'd rather go with the practicality of keeping a healer than have all melee classes and getting owned while my potions are on cooldown.

If you're on the PC version, you can get the mod that gives Merrill access to the creation tree. I wouldn't consider that cheating.

Well, I found out max rivalry doesn't keep him. But I found if you make Bethany a gray warden she can join you right after you kill/banish Anders so I had me a healer.
