Yeah it seems to be farmville but replacing micro transactions with crushing amounts of guilt so of course it would do well. Personally I hate the idea of a game punishing me for not playing it as it strikes me as fucking obnoxious and inconsiderate so I won't be joining this number of sales.
It's hardly a "punishing" you for not being there.
Worst thing that happens is that your animal neighbors ask where have you been. After that you are on your merry way. It's a game that plays even when you aren't there. In fact, that was the catch line for the Wild World version on the DS.
All of your "punishment" is self inflicted.
You will see roaches in your house and weeds will grow in your town like bunnies. All of these preventable anyway with the "flower Ordinance" that will insure no matter how long you are gone your town will still look pretty.

The game only "punishes" you though if you turn off the game without saving. Resetti is a monster when you piss him off and is not a pleasant animal to run into when you first walk out of your house...so just save. It won't take long.

EDIT: Sorry about that CptnBallsacks- I forgot to edit out your quote.

And that's why there will always be a place for Nintendo in gaming.

OT: One title grabbing a seventh of total bi-annual sales? Damn, that's pretty fucking impressive.
And that was just a niche title.

Wait until Pokemon X and Y comes out. The Vita will be crying bitter bitter uber graphics tears when pikachu comes to put the final nail in that systems coffin.(Providing Sony continues to handle the Vita as they are right now.)

Any chance we'd ever see any Animal Crossing games on the PC? I don't have the spare cash to pick up the system but I loved the original (lost now) and would love to play some more.
Aside from emulation, no. I'm not sure of the legality of emulating the game if you no longer own the original, either.

If your computer can run it, you can pick up a 3ds emulator. Not sure how far it's come, or if it runs the game at all, but I thought I saw one out there not too long ago.

OT: I'm glad, Animal Crossing is a good franchise and Nintendo is a good company. I'm glad all is going well for them.
I got bored of it after about a month, but it's good to pick up just whenever.

Although I'm sure there are a billion clones.
China's good at bootlegging a lot of things.
Animal Crossing, though...eh.
I wanna say that the game itself is a work of love on the team's part. You can see it in how everything's crafted. That's not something you can just clone.
100% right. It would have been easy for this game to be boring and crap, but Nintendo are one of a very small group who could pull this off. It has been brilliantly executed.

Is it bad that I want to get this game, even though I have never played one, and have no idea what it is about?

Yeah... That's bad...

Will it stop me getting it? No...

Need to start carrying my DS with me more though... Need more Street Pass hits!
