Hi, Escapist. I'm wondering how many anime fans on here are from britain, and was wondering, how do you go about purchasing anime/manga? i usually order mine on Amazon, but without a dedicated book store, it's almost impossible for me to get into new series. Another big problem is, without the exposure and fans, i think it will be highly unlikely that anime will really boom in england. I know some store like WHSSmiths sell a few volumes of manga here and there, but it's usually naruto oor bleach, which is sold in britain, and HMV has a small range of anime, but those are the only places i can think of for me to actually buy it and help the anime industry..

TL;DR Where do british anime fans buy their anime/manga?

I'm Irish, so there is basically zero availability. That one or two things of that nature I have gotten has been fansubs/scanlations.

I buy most of my anime and manga in Forbidden Planet.
Quite a nice shop, and they have a big enough branch in my local city.
Of course, Waterstones is also expanding their Manga section, so I always check there as well.

Forbidden Planet has quite a selection in both the stores I've been to. Also, the dealers rooms at most conventions are chock full of DVD's and manga.

As you've mentioned, Amazon and HMV are alright for getting most of the more popular anime/manga series but I do find HMV a little expensive sometimes.

EDIT: Ninja'd by Greyfox, by quite a while. Must have left the thread longer than I thought, heh.

I'm not into manga. I'm more of a graphic novel sort of guy... You know Marvel, DC etc. But I've noticed in Waterstones that manga is slowly encroaching on my precious graphic novels. Check there.

I'm from Britain, and I've read a little bit of manga (Yu-Gi-Oh) and watched quite a bit of anime.

My original exposure to anime came from Toonami (back when it was a separate channel to Cartoon Network) with DragonBall Z. Then I started watching YGO and YGO GX from somehwere (can't remember where), and I started watching Naruto from Jetix (now Disney XD, formerly FoxKids). Finally, thanks to the internet, I've been introduced to various new animes in the past few years (Bleach, Gurren Lagann, Naruto: Shippuden).
