Now, I am an easy man to please when it comes to anime.
I just finished rewatching Code Geass and when I get home from work I plan to get into Monster.
(Needed something to watch)

Two questions.
Do you think Monster is worth putting my time into?

and

Is there another anime like Code Geass out there?
I only ask because the last thread on this was more than a year ago.. At least that's what the first two pages of the search bar said.

If you guys would be so kind to help, I'd be happy that I don't have to sift through anime-blog sites and google searches :)

I would not recommend Monster. I found that the story became quite stale after a while and I could only manage about 20 episodes into it. I'm not sure about another anime like Code Geass, I've heard that Gurren Lagann is supposed to be similar but I've never seen it.

the difference being that Gurren lagann doesn't try to take itself seriously.

I'd say yeah it does slow down on occasion but when it hit's it's stride it is damn awesome and the finale is pretty great.

I really don't know what to recommend if you liked Code Geass, except a few mecha shows like Escaflowne or Rahxenphon.

Also The World only God Knows has Keima who is basically Lelouch if he was a hopeless Dating Sim geek, it's pretty damn funny.

I liked the Monster manga, but never watched the anime. You might as well give it a try anyway, since you're already thinking about it.

It's a 74 ep anime, so prepare for a heavy investment. I've not seen it, m'self, though I am aware of a fair few individuals around here who would thoroughly recommend it.

As for Code Geass-esque animes, in a sense it's one of a kind, since it has a strange blend of mecha/conspiracy/pseudo-cerebral plotline and while I quite enjoyed it (fuck you assholes, the ending to R2 was good), you'll find it has a somewhat polarising effect on anime viewers here.

Anyway, mecha-wise, try Fafner, though the means are quite different even if the ends are similar. Other than that, I enjoyed RahXephon, though I'm aware I stand in small company with that title.

The monster manga is good from what I hear, but the anime isn't as good, apparently.
Death note and Gurren lagann are the two I'd say are most similar to Code Geass.

You should try Guilty Crown.

Or not. I'm not your mom.
I second this, as Guilty Crown and Code Geass are extremely similar except Guilty Crown has a bit less of a gambit pile up from what I'e seen and because I am also not your mother.

Monster is...well, it's good, but it's also really slow at times. Really slow. Like every once in a while, there would be an episode that doesn't tie with the main plot (aside from it happening during it) and it's not even a subplot, it's just there. However, Monster is pretty good if you trim out the fat. And special kudos goes to the details - the creator(s?) of Monster really did their homework.

As for whether you need to see it...I dunno. I admit I myself was on the verge of dropping the series twice. I wouldn't say "You must see it", since I know it may not appeal to you. Hell, if somebody had told me I had to see Monster I probably would have quit watching it after a while. But if you are not bothered by the slower pacing, then go right ahead.

And as Jonluw said - Death Note. I found it way better than Code Geass. I watched DN first and then CG because I heard they were similar and they were somewhat if only they had more similarities on the good parts.

I have only seen a few episodes of Monster but what I saw was pretty slow, which matches what I have heard from other people.

For another series like Code Geass, I would strongly recommend Guilty Crown. Guilty Crown has the EXACT same feeling as Code Geass and has comparable production values, if not the same caliber of story. Gurren Lagann is also an excellent choice. Death Note is another excellent choice.

Monster is good and has a really kick ass villain, but it's quite long (at least when compared to the standard 12-24 episode shows that come out 90% of the time nowadays) and really takes it time. If you've got the patience to sit through it, I say go for it!

As for other shows similar to Code Geass, I suppose a number of the Gundam shows would be good with the mechs and politics and all, just no super powers.

What exactly did you like about Geass? Was it the mecha action, the political stuff, the harem romance, what? Geass blends quite a few genres together so suggestions will be based on what you like.

I've only watched the Monster anime but I would say yes. It's very slow and thoughtful though so be ready for that.

read the manga, since that'll take less time than watching the anime. The anime itself is pretty solid.

I'm not a big mech guy, but check out the full metal panic! series. Do some internet research before watching though.

I wish I could like Monster - the opening and ending alone are great - but the way the dialoge flows feels so campy and almost pre-school level. I love the concept of this series, but after 5 or so episodes I had to stop since the dialoge made it impossible for to take it as serious as it wanted me to.

Monster is really good but quite different from many of the current animes, but by all means give it a try. and as for Code Geass I don't think there's anything quite like it, at least nothing that I can remember. But if you like Mechas I recommend Gundam 00, if you like the "Anti hero protagonist" storyline I'd recommend Darker Than Black and if it's the "Chess master" protagonist that intrigues you maybe Death Note.

Read the Monster manga, may be just me, but it works much better in its original form.

For "anime like Code Geass" you need to specify which aspect of Code Geass:
-tactical/strategical/mind games
-superfluous mecha
-show with a mildly interesting story with characters that are actually fun to watch.
-etc

But holy shit watch ANYTHING but Guilty Crown, I could rant for hours about what is wrong with that show. But it doesn't do anything right, it's characters are all bland as hell and it's writing is some of the worst I've seen even by bad anime standards.

But if you don't care about writing and characterization and you just want an anime pretty visuals and good music, yeah Guilty Crown I guess.

People don't like R2's ending? Imean R2 was a complete mess of ridiculousness compared to the first season (it's been confirmed that the director and writers had to redo EVERYTHING they had planned out due to scheduling changes), but goddamn that ending was one of the few that felt was perfect. Geass isn't even in my top ten, but that ending worked.

I would highly recommend the Monster anime. It's not for everyone due to its length, but I loved it, nice and slow.

I watched Monster, and while it gets really slow (and I mean REALLY slow) in a few places in the middle, ultimately I think it's worth watching. Personally I'd recommend watching it in combination with another anime (preferably a comedy) so that the middle parts don't get too stale. Honestly, I think Monster would have been a pretty much perfect anime had they cut it down to 52 eps instead of going for the almost 80 that they did.
