Its seems that anime has some really bad taste in humor, and the more I watch it, the more it annoys me. Take naruto, bleach, fully metal alchemist or whatever, and they all seem to have really dumbs gags in it. Take this episode of soul eater for instance, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TZuCHIgQwM skip to 6min 30sec and watch this toilet gag that they have and tell me you don't want to slam your head on the nearest object after seeing that! I mean, it was starting to get good around episode 20's and I was getting into it, but as soon as that arc was over then they need to play stupid ass episodes like this!

So? The gags are there to be stupid.

There other funny parts in Soul Eater and stuff but they are mixed in with bad humor too, that's just the way it is.

Then that's not your genre of anime.
I don't like most anime, but I suprised myself in how much I like really slow shows, like .hack//SIGN, NOIR, or Galaxy Express 999. I'm not otaku, but I do think anime can be a worthwhile form of media if you can find what appeals to you.

Anime is Japanese. Therefore they're filled with Japanese humour. It's just cultural differences such as many Americans not liking British humour and vice versa. Like when you see videos of those "crazy" Japanese shows, that's just normal over there.

Well yeah, I agree that most anime gags in actual series are kinda stupid and very repetitive, i.e. the dumb faces that Naruto makes in nearly every episode.
But, like always, there are exceptions with this rule.
If you want some seriously funny anime / manga, try out Tenchi Muyo (for anime) or Ranma 1/2 (for mangas).

I quite like the little snippets at the end of Bleach episodes, although when they try and incorporate it into the main show, it usually annoys me for being so dumb and taking away from the mood of the plot.

I feel the same way.

I also full-heartedly agree with you about .hack//SIGN as well. The games were fun to play as well.

There's no such thing as one type of humor which is in all anime. It's a form of media, not even a genre. I liked Soul Eater, but if you don't, okay, watch something else. Also although Soul Eater is somewhat comedy, it's not primarily. Bleach, Naruto and FMA aren't really focused on comedy at all.

Most comedy in general is shit, because most people aren't notably funny and personal preference varies quite a lot, it doesn't mean there's no good comedy.

I find as many different types of humour in anime that I'll find in regular stand up, movies or just panel shows. Course there'll always be something that'll make you groan (I probably sound like a heretic for saying so but Frankie Boyle on Mock the Week...urgh, lowers the tone intentionally for a sick minded laugh)

So yeah I can relate that eventually we'll all find some piece of humour in anime that'll just be plain wrong. I'll have to take your word on it that the video was in bad taste as it wont let me view it here in the UK

So... Generic anime shows that aren't comedy-oriented, are aimed primarily at young teenagers, and make jokes that often don't translate very well... Aren't particularly funny to you?

Did you... Expect things to be different?

There's your problem. Try something made for humour. You'll also have to account for the culture gap.

It is a different culture, many times you have to consider that in order to enjoy a show. For instance, something like Love Hina, School Rumble or Excel Saga, have tons of jokes that probably wouldn't work outside of their culture.

anime humour is rather dry, buy please don't accuse FMA about that, it drops the bad jokes halfway through the series.

I've watched Excel Saga because I've heard it was awesome and funny. To me, it was so boring I couldn't get to the third episode.

Japan and humor don't mix well in most cases.

Maybe... Just maybe, dont watch that genre of anime any more. Watch elfen lied. Haruhi suzumiya is good too. Ghost in the shell. Trigun. Cowboy bebop. Try any of those, you'd love them.

It does make sense that if you're going to judge humor, you should perhaps watch a humorous show or two.

Not necessarily; I didn't particularly like those, except Cowboy Bebop. Don't set their expectations too high.

I was just saying what came to mind, and some of those earlier episodes came to mind, I'm not saying that the anime's that I listed are bad, I wouldn't watch them if they were, but sometimes those zingers that they put out there kind of spoil the mood. Also I do consider the cultural differences when I watch these shows. I've been watching anime for a loooong time and sometimes I can get a chuckle here and there, but its just too often that they use whats seems to be the same brand of humor and its just being marked down as another anime cliche to me. Thats just what I think at least.

Maybe you should try watching the ones that are specifically in the comedy genre then, if those shows aren't funny to you. Aren't the ones in the OP supposed to be more action oriented anyway?

yes, but the problem is that I watch the action genre for the action, I just wish that they would stay in focus of their genre like cowboy bebop or death note did
