It's going to be repeated ad nauseam in this thread but the Brotherhood version follows the manga which doesn't branch off from the anime until like 15 eps in. It's a bit early to make opinions. The manga has a much bigger universe than the anime which is why some major plot points in the first anime may seem glossed over in Brotherhood, they aren't as important in the grand scheme of things.

Again I hate to say it but there will be much nerd rage over calling the first anime 'the orginal'.

Prefer original to remake, more gritty and has more depth, although I enjoyed the remake greatly ;).

I'm betting someone is going to feel quite embarrassed to have judged an anime based on just it's first 13 episodes when there are 63 episodes in total.

FMAB is one of those rare animes that keeps getting better and better, and they are quite different from one another. I for one prefer FMAB storyline much more.

IMO the animation is superior in FMAB than the first one.

It's not a remake, this is the manga storyline.

13 episodes? You haven't gotten anywhere into the plot yet... This series is so good because of the amount of character development and story that occurs between the beginning and the end. Not to mention that the last 10 episodes are the best ones.

It's all just semantics. Tomato & Tomahto. Potato & Potahto, Black Hole Generating Vortex of Doom & Hadron Collider. :p

I only got into Brotherhood recently, but it blew my mind. If the original series was that much better, I should probably check it out.

There was alot of filler in the first series and a bad end to it since the manga was still half done but between the music choices and pacing I did enjoy it more but the new one is as good after 10 or so eps.

I really dont approve of this review. Brother hood follows the manga far better. The story is better but I can understand you will be disappointed by this by only watching the first 13 episodes.

Brotherhood has already come full circle. I watched the final episode a month ago on hulu. This is old news.

I have also watched both series, they are amazing. I am in a state that I prefer BRotherhood, cause of a fact that also is its weakness. BH is bigger than the original in every sense. More characters, more development, more action.
But that also made me feel like the Elric brothers were less important in the plot. Like they were observers while other characters were doing "more of the job". I dont know, maybe only I felt like that.

I would have to say that it would be unfair to judge the entire series on the first 13 episodes, especially because I believe it began to surpass FMA after episode 13. Do the part 2 and we'll talk.

Story gets better with the introduction of a certain Emperor, and the development of the plot revolving around the goals of the Homonculus which is completely different from the first series.

Not to mention that Scar (one of my favorite character) plays a bigger role in this one. yay!

And yes, most of my friends who I forced to watch the show, hated the first few episodes until much later whereby they got hooked.

It's a pity that they've rushed the development of the characters, the original was one of my favourite animes but I really didn't like the manga. "Like the manga" seems to be the anime slang for good but I think anime and manga benefit from different storytelling techniques.
Rarely works for film.....

Do you mean that films are worse for not following the book? I'm being a bit stupid at the moment.
Look at most game/comic to film adaptions, while amine is not to that level of ineptitude it can be damn close sometimes and rarely is the remade product better off with the remade crap thats tossed in.

IN FMAs case the first series is basically the first half of the total plot story with alot of ok to meandering filler, brotherhood goes over a bit of the plot centric stories then goes right into advancing the over all story and plot.

edit

most books don't have deep fiction, sci fi/fantasy elements, so most of the time books have a better time at film adaptation.
