Anime that made you cry.

Gurren Lagaan. It's one of the most badass animes I've ever watched.
I also sobbed at Fate Stay Night, Chrono Crusade, and One Piece. Yes. One Piece. Don't anybody tell me that the Laboon episode in Brook's flashback is not sad. XD
The ending of Code Geass nearly broke me. XD
And some moments in Fruits Basket were quite emotional.

grave of the fireflies, Elfen lied, FMA and FMA brotherhood. Cowboy bebop. Trigun (this made me cry twice if you also count the manga) Evangelion comes to mind as well. Gurren Lagann, definatly. Oh and one that i cried at the most, and still brings tears to my eyes. Pokemon. Bye bye Butterfree. you try watching that episode and not getting teary eyed.

I don't want to spoil anything... but you'll probably be confused if you went back and watched it anyway... but basically it gives you the entire back story concerning the post apocalyptic nature of the Earth, the dome cities, the proxies, what happened to the other people who inhabited the earth and other things...<.<

I've seen some threads on this forum that very nearly compelled me to make an account, but I guess this is the one that finally got me to do it.

On topic I'd say FLCL made me tear up a bit, just because it was one of the first anime experiences I've had and still one of the best.

Also I was surprised someone else already mentioned this, but one part of one episode of Lucky Star actually got to me.

Lucky Star, nothing sad happened in the show but it ended, it was over, never would there be a new episode of Lucky Star EVER! :-( and it was the best anime ever.

Lelouch died by the hand of Zero who is now Suzaku.

Yes, it was all a part of Lelouch's grand plan in the end, but that didn't make me like it. I didn't want that ending. I admit that it was a proper ending. I admit that it was probably the best ending possible. But that doesn't mean that I wanted it to end like that. It was an awesome series, though.

OT: I can't think of any anime that made me cry. Or really anything that ever made me cry. I've felt bad for characters in a series/movie/book/game, but not to the point that it drove me to tears. Sorry.

Wait. What!? But even Suzaku seemed to think he was dead. Why would he lie to his own friend? I did hear there was talk of a new series, so I guess that would make some sense. Still, everyone I know thinks he died. It's not often that we all misunderstand something like that.

yea there is already a Extra seen out lol of him alive afterwords and what the new thing is cause of his eyes are getting more powerful. he can now use them more then once. thus fool his best friend again..

I didn't really find Grave of the Fireflies a tear-jerker but rather depressing. FMA was the same way. And I'm sorry to say but not one pokemon episode was sad, at least not to me.
There aren't really too many anime I can say that made me cry, but there were a few that made me feel depressed:

Spoiler: School Days

Makoto Ito - primary male character - has many affairs with practically each female character, tending to use them and avoiding the ones that actually loved him. I really felt bad for the second female character - Sekai Saionji who believes she's pregnant because of Makoto. To this end, she tries hard to form a relationship with him but he only pushes her away when his first love interest actually opens up to him. In the end, Sekai ends up murdering Makoto and then the first female character - Kotonoha Katsura kills Sekai. I really felt bad for Sekai because of her position and her wanting to have a child but never actually realizing this.

Spoiler: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai

the character Satako is forced to live with her abusive uncle but she believes that by overcoming this, her older brother who has gone missing will return. Her friends try to save her from him, and while they work to free her, you see her abused even more to the point where she begs them to rescue her.

Spoiler: Kanokon

while the vast majority of this series is comedy and ecchi, the underlying idea is how the two main characters meet and deal with each new challenge to their relationship and how it becomes much more difficult for them as new rivalries or dangers appear. At the end, the main female character - Chizuru only wants the main male character - Kouta to say he loves her and while he does, he finds it difficult to express himself which makes Chizuru believe that he doesn't. There are also several moments through the series such as when he and another girl drink a type of sake which makes them fall in love and ignore all others. Chizuru tries everything to return him to normal but believes she's lost him when he tells her to go away and leave him and the other girl alone.

Katana's relationship with Sojiro - quite charming but also sad in that she never got to be around Konata, at least in a living form, and spend time with her

Spoiler: Kanon

all the events that lead up to Makoto's death from when she lost the ability to speak right up to Yuichi's last moments with her. Mai becoming so distraught at having hurt Sayuri that she tries to take her own life. And one of the biggest - witnessing Nayuki's mother get hit by the car - that literally made my heart stop for an instant.

Spoiler: Black Lagoon

while initially you aren't supposed to sympathize with the murders Hansel and Gretel, when you come to understand that they lived lives of exploitation, rape, and savage beatings, you come to want them to succeed in escaping. But what really depressed me was after Gretel tells Rock her story and then leaves, telling him that they ought to have a picnic in the future but she is ultimately shot in the head right in front of him.

Spoiler: Paranoia Agent

Lil' Slugger's double is constantly interrogated and while he tells them of his crimes, that want him to confess to things that he did not do. This pushes him into an emotional corner which causes the real Lil' Slugger to appear and beat him to death.

Spoiler: Read or Die the TV

Anita's past when she first meets Michelle and Maggie. She starts off as a homeless child and asks them to help her but they leave. However, they do return and adopt each other as sisters. While not supposed to be sad, I did fell kind of sad but also happy when Anita cried because she finally wasn't alone anymore.

Spoiler: Scrapped Princess

The part in which Pacifica has lost her memory and is locked in a cell, then later, he mother, after having been tortured, is thrown into the cell next to Pacifica. The two have a conversation about how the mother never got to see Pacifica grow up due to being separated at her birth. Ultimately, the mother ends up dieing right next to Pacifica without even being able to see her, her last request being to her Pacifica call her her mother just once.

Spoiler: Shuffle!

Rin and Kaede's past when Rin tried to keep the truth of Kaede's mother's death from her, causing him to become the target of her hatred. Seeing the pain that he went through tore through me but I also admired his resolution - I also felt sad for Kaede in how she wanted to do everything for Rin because of her overwhelming guilt for what she did to him and her guilt leads her to fall in love with him which causes her to want to give herself to him to try and keep him from leaving her.
I also felt sad by how Asa's condition continues to get worse and Rin struggles to help her, even going so far as to want to die in order to help her.

Spoiler: Suzuka

While not ultimately meant to be sad since the series does have a happy ending, I really related to the character Yamato Akitsuki in that he seems to have no qualities which would make him stand out and he has a crush on the main female character Suzuka. His crush causes him to confess but she pushes him away. He then tries to earn her attention by joining the track team. As he trains, Suzuka begins to see in Yamato another man who once confessed to her, but he ultimately died. Yamato believes that Suzuka still loves the man she lost and that she won't accept him because he isn't as good as him, but this proves to not be true - Suzuka actually likes Yamato but is afraid that she could lose him like her past crush - however, she failed to reveal this thus causing her to push Yamato away.
Pretty much my love life in a nutshell - I tried to confess but the girl I had a crush on wouldn't accept me because I didn't 'meet her expectations' and her confusing signals caused me to snap at her, which in the end wasn't the cause of our break but rather how coldly she responded to me.

Spoiler: Hell Girl

Just about every episode would fall into this category seeing as how many episodes can be 'stand alones' - there are many characters who you sympathize with as they choose to call upon Hell Girl - such as the first episode when (let's call her Girl A) loses er class's collective earnings for some activity (never revealed). In a panic, Girl B offers Girl A to repay the lost money but at a high cost. Girl B forces Girl A into many immoral situations and takes pictures in order to blackmail her. Girl A's life grows worse as she is forced to steal from her family in order to pay back Girl B, but finally Girl B grows tired and reveals the photos of Girl A's forced activities anyway - effectively ruining Girl A's future. Girl A finally gains revenge on Girl B and it is revealed that Girl B originally stole the collected money.

Spoiler: Death Note

While unlike many viewers I had no problem with the second half, I did find Kiyomi Takada's - the reporter/ supporter of Kira kidnapping and death a bit depressing. Mello kidnaps her and forces her to remain nude while transporting her. Light gives her the chance to escape by using a piece of the death note but she is ultimately killed when she causes the driver to die. I didn't fully agree with Mello's tactics of kidnapping and force in order to obtain the death note and I did not feel as though she had to die. I also felt bad about Light's death at the end. to me, he was a man who wanted to create a better world but was unable to do so just because the minority did not think he was correct - when you stop to think about it - legal matters are pretty ineffective in that many criminals go free due to lack of evidence or through bribery while more and more innocent civilians are killed. At least Light was working to create something in just seven years that the legal system - in its centuries of usage - couldn't do - and while he was a murderer - he was removing those that were considered undesirable from society. Even after this, the detectives planned to kill Kira upon his capture which is pretty much what Light was doing. So essentially - both sides were hypocrites to their foundations.

That's about all I've seen so far, even though I have a wide collection of anime and I've seen plenty. I know it's a lot but I felt I had to give everything I knew in one post rather than many.
