I used to be a addicted to Dragon Ball Z. But its over now and any anime Im trying to watch just bores me. I wanna why you like anime so much? (No insult meant to anime lovers, just a simple question)
Dragon Ball Kai has been released, I think it may be a retelling of the story. I dont know, all Ive seen is screen shots of the first episode. Hang On let me get a synopsis...
Allright found one along with the site thats got the first 3 episodes, soon to be 4 (subbed of course). Dragon Ball Kai [http://www.instantz.net/anime/Dragon_Ball_Kai.html]

On topic, I like anime because its better than anything else on TV, plus a well done anime feels like a movie, just spread out and more in depth.

If you liked DBZ for the humor and fights, then sir, don't look any further, One Piece is the one you need for crazy long fights that remains entertaining to watch and over-the-top humor. Not to mention, the vast array of characters that are all unique and add to the layer of awesomeness that one piece is.
You need to remind whoever is buying One Piece that they need to buy the Funimation version. That series was supposedly brutalized by American censorship and there are bad, cut up episodes of it out there. Either that or tell them to go into the fansubs. I found the original Japanese to be very well done.

I like the stories mostly. Creativity is a little stagnant in America. Good action cartoons are hard to find and usually get canceled for being action heavy. Also, they tend to go there if you know what I mean. In terms of violence and content.

Only a few select anime/mangas which my friends have recommended have kept me interested, including Evangelion, Deathnote and Bleach. I don't mind to be honest as a few of my friends love anime to death so they just let me know about the better ones which I check out. The arrangement suits me fine.

Anime is too theatrical.

I've watched and liked few anime series; Death Note, Neon Genesis Evangelion... And FMA, though it was one those that strayed too far into theatrical half the time.
Still, I have hard time calling myself an anime fan because of the clichés of the genre.

I use to like most anime...and then fan videos came out and killed the experience of most of them(screw all those dancing cartoons and couples things no one cares). And of course their is always the mind boggling ideas used. Dont get me wrong i like the occasonal anime here and their but sometimes the concepts just blow my mind. Take bleach for example: they can die when they are already...well dead. I know its teh whole soul thing but that kinda defeats the purpose of going to the Soul Society. Its stupid things like taht which usually turns me off to anime

The best anime usually doesnt get past 30 episdoes.
(Bleach, Naruto, DBZ all exceed 30 fyi)
I prefer funny ones myself. Currently I started getting into xxxHolic, not a comedy focused one, but an interesting show.

I admit I used to watch Naruto and Bleach and it was just something different to me as well as popular so I could talk about it. But then I grew up.

I felt the need for stories in which something happens. You see, in each episode of a european/american Cartoons there happens something in the beginning which gets resolved during the episode and in the end it's like nothing ever happened.
I tend to watching anime with an overarching story as I enjoy the progression in a story. And I think the most interesting animes have already been released. Nothing beat Trigun, Neon Genesis, Lain, Texhnolyze, Escaflowne, Ergo Proxy and Bebop, yet.

The main reason for me to take a step back is, simply, that the more childish side of anime became omnipresent. And in my country every fat chick with no social life thinks Sailor Moon is her best friend.

Trigun is great. The protagonist is dubbed a walking disaster right from the get-go, but when you see him... Starts kinda light-hearted, but turns into Dark Brooding Serious Business about halfway through.

Hajime no Ippo is an anime about a young boy who meets a young man who changes his life forever by introducing him to boxing. Ippo starts out like a wimpy weakling, but he punches pack a, well, punch (the first time he hit a sandbag, he caused the skin from his fist to tear). It's also great comedy. The fight scenes in the ring will blow you away. There are currently two seasons to this anime, while the manga is on-going with no end in sight.

Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO) is about a 22-year old biker gang-leader whose also a virgin who suddenly decided that he needs more direction in his life. His answer? Become a highschool teacher of course! That way he can get a 16-year old wife in his forties! But when he gets assigned to the class that caused three teachers to quit, he suddenly finds himself more dedicated to just being a great teacher that sincerely wants what's best for his students, both in AND out of school. It's a comedy anime with more Crowning Moments of Awesome than I could count (everytime he falls from great heights to prove a point is one, can't help it, he's semi-indestructible). After watching the anime, read the Manga as it continues the story after the school trip (the anime's ending was written since at the time, it was primed to overtake the manga).

Death Note is the last anime that I followed religiously though.

Berserker takes an age to get going. Good though it is.
Death Note is fantastic.
Requiem From The Darkness has a great style and interesting characters.
But you really need to see the work of Satoshi Kon. If that guys works doesn't grab you, then give up.

Great Teacher Onizuka is awesome as awesome can be.

Also Bleach is pretty good, even though I like manga a lot more.

GTO is 43 episodes. Your theory is crashing and burning, my friend. Crashing and burning.

43 is not 143, and you're kinda creepy that you care so much. Many anime I have really liked was not, or not much more than 30 episodes, but really, my point is the best anime end it and dont drag on. The super long ones lose me after a bit.

26 is the standard cut for an anime series. They get contracted on a 26 episode season arc. Most anime choose to use that as a series cap, because much of the manga it's usually based on has a limited series run.

Does anybody watch Tezuka anime anymore? I think Miyazaki anime is more famous now, but I guess Tezuka's having a revival now that Black Jack is being republished after so long out of print. He was responsible for Astro Boy and Kimba the White Lion. His experimental films are excellent too, "Jumping" is very surreal. "Jumping" is like Tezuka's take on what Mirror's Edge would be like if you replaced Faith with a little boy who jumps higher and higher over the landscape, and it's animated in complete first person shot. You can find that short film on Youtube...

I like stuff such as Kaiba and Speed Racer too, the old classic anime shows are decent. This anime season in Japan is depressing in quality.
