Gurren Lagann, way to much action per action and not enough character development outside of Simon. Still like the show though.

Dragonball Z wouldn't of been so bad if they had cut down the fight lengths, One Piece is way too long for me to get into and I also despise the art style.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is an overated anime just cause it's called the greatest anime of all time by alot of people, it is one of my favourite animes and would get a 9/10 (the ending takes a point off)If I was gonna review it, but its overated in the same way Sgt Peppers is overated, its a damn good album but nowhere near the greatest album of all time.

Also Baccano!, the first episode was awful. It's going to take a lot of convincing to make me watch the rest.

It has been a while since I watched the show though, so I wouldn't be surprised if you were right about the first episode. It speeds up fast though. I suppose you likely have better things to do then to rely on the opinions of a stranger as to how you should spend your free time though.
Well if enough people shouted at me I'd consider it :D
SHOUT SHOUT SHOUT!!!!

Uh, I'd give Baccano another shot. The first episode just kinda throws you in the middle of everything, so I understand why you didn't like it. Once you find your footing, though, it's a really fun show.

Oh, an overrated anime! Eden of the East. I just found it to be extremely boring with a story I could not bring myself to care about.

Rosario + Vampire? Saw it a long time ago, so my rage isn't as big now but I really hate this anime. Saw the first season and wow did it suck. It was a harem with no plot. Half of the anime the guy was just assembling all the girl stereotypes and then the creators were like 'oh shit, it should end with the big battle but we barely had any conflict!' and then they pulled the ending out of their ass. I don't know who degraded vampires more, this anime or Twilight.
I have to ask what did you expect from it? You were watching an ecchi harem anime you know you have three options ecchi, good, story you can only pick 2 and will probably only get 1. It is like watching Highschool DxD or High School of the Dead and expecting normal body shaped women.

OT: While I do enjoy them most shounen animes are quite over rated by most people eg Naruto, DBZ, Fairy Tail and One Piece. Although I always find it funny when people try to build up a case of Fairy Tail being a One Piece rip off when it is ripping off Rave Master as a Rave Master v2.0.

The thing is, at that point I was just getting into anime so I honestly had no idea what to expect. I just thought this might be a good vampire anime.

I didn't like the ending to Code Geass R2, but the rest of the show is very top notch in my opinion.
What? The ending was awesome. Sure, It's kind of atypical, and not the ending many would have wanted. But for me, that ending was perfect, it wrapped things up so nicely.
I just didn't get why Lelouch would brand himself as a bad guy when Schneizel was trumpeting "I am Evil" from atop a giant doom fortress :D

He could've put Schneizel in the bad guy light, everyone already didn't like him.

But what do I know :p

I'm going to have to second dokuro Chan. I just didn't like the humor in the show at all. It was incredibly disappointing considering the hype it got among my friends. I found naruto very over rated as well especially shippuden.

Also while I understand people not liking evangelion I encourage people who have seen the original to check out the rebuild. I've never seen a remake so thoroughly fix the problems of the original series.

I also agree on black butler being over rated. I could not get into the show and I really tried.

Edit: totally forgot, but I find samurai 7 to be horrendously overrated as well as just being one of my least favorite smokes I've ever seen.

It's definitely Neon Genesis Evangelion, but that show is at least coherent and understands how to pace itself, whereas Dragonball Z is just outright godawful and always has been. There is not one single instance of character development in that entire series aside from entry-level "I'm a good guy now!" moments of idiotic hypermasculine bravado. Every single thing about Dragonball Z is deplorable. There is NOTHING GOOD ABOUT IT AT ALL.

Ok, that's fair enough then. Well just for the future if you haven't noticed already just check if an anime is ecchi. If it is and you want to see if it is good check out with out people or if you want to know it is "good" Google images should suffice.

I admit the first season was poor. Capu2 was better, though but the ending was anti-climactic, too. The manga is far better, however.

I'm coming in from an entirely different direction. I'll just admit my dark passenger right now.

I love shoujo anime.

THERE! I said it. I watch other stuff as well, I like Samauri Champloo for instance. I also like Inuyasha like I like Law and Order in that I can turn on any of the like million episodes and be able to watch it without being confused. On the other hand I really liked Paranoia Agent back when I saw it back then.

But My real bread and butter is the girly stuff, I got my husband to watch and enjoy Ouran High School Host Club for instance (its my fav).

So while I really dig girly stuff that I have little context in knowing whats considered good or not, I know I just couldn't get into Cowboy Bebop. My friend got a tattoo about it he was that into it, and I just can't get why. The characters were just meh to me.

On that note...

Vampire knight: I may end up sounding like a naive idiot but wow this is stupid. It's mostly from our female lead, don't worry this is not just her burden to bear. She keeps charging in only to get saved. They give her a weapon that is never useful and ends up out of her hands in a minute. The main vampire is a manipulative twat and everyone else is generically good looking dull. The plot is passable but the love triangle lacks any spark or compatibility between the characters. It's vampire rules are even sillier than Twilight's and seem like a really forced metaphor for sex. Overall just a really stupid Shojo show.

A few are subverted in yes I could call them overrated and they are but I still love them: NGE,Madoka and TTGL.
Thank you! I tried this one out, and even as a shojo fan, I couldn't do this. I LOVE vampire stuff (I mean look at my avatar, best thing ever!) and this reminded me of crap like the Vampire Diaries where the drama was all supposed to be, to me at least, about "beautiful" immortal being just laying around and some shitty shallow angst. Unlikable cardboard characters.

Other than that, I would say Full Metal Panic. I don't think it balanced its mech and slice of life proportions very well. I agree with those who said the whole esper stuff was interesting, I even liked the silly high school stuff because I like silly high school stuff, but the bad guy did nothing for me and there was just too much meaningless mech fighting with no character or plot development. I stopped watching near the end of the first series.

Amusingly enough, Dragon Ball is underrated, few have even bothered to watch all of it, even though it's actually quite good.
Dragonball is fantastic. I didn't watch it until after DBZ and GT, but it's by far my favorite.

R2. Motherfucking R2. I liked Code Geass R1. It was over the top and goofy, but it at least had a sense of pacing and a level of restraint. I liked the characters, it had some good action scenes as well as some nice subtle details, culminating in a pretty damn awesome climax cliffhanger of a last episode.

And then, within a single episode, R2 shit over that entire buildup completely. So we get to see a condensed repeat of R1 over the course of a few episodes before it actually gets back on track, but even here, it just gets stupider and stupider. It became less about the character dynamic between Suzaku and Lelouch, and more about what utter bullshit they could come up with next, including but not limited to murdering GOD.
THANK YOU. I usually see people rating R2 as better than R1, simply because it was the conclusion to the series. But it is worse in almost every way, and it was no where near as entertaining to watch.

These ones are just my opinions, and I realize many of you may think differently. I'm not gonna go into great detail:

Naruto - I know this may seem weird given my username/avatar, but this show is average at best. Unlikable characters for the most part, and just plain bad when compared to say Fairy Tail. Ive dropped this show as of ep 250 or so of Shippuden.

Oreimo - I heard so much about this show going in, and once again its average at best. I didn't hate it, but it definitely wasn't spectacular in any way.

Haruhi - Perhaps the worst characters in any show ive ever seen. It became painful to watch. I'll admit I'm not one for non linear plots, but I would've persevered if I didn't loathe the characters. Haruhi herself especially.

It's a great show, up until that happens.

Then the series turned to shit.
I didn't find the events after 'you know what' shit, just different... very different. Seems like it was done by different writers.

OT: Probably One Piece. I like it, but it is stretched out to a ridiculous level.
It wouldn't have been so bad if Mellow and Near weren't the most annoyingly dull characters in the history of the universe.

For me, the mind games between Light and L are what made the series so great, as well as L being a genuinely interesting character.
They weren't dull, they were just badly placed. Near was supposed to have Mello's role and vice versa. But the editor wrote in the wrong names, and instead of just, you know, retconning it with a "my bad, I dun goofed" with the next chapter, the mangaka roled with it. So we got a less interesting L, and Mello, who could of been so much better if he was with the FBI.

But Clarion, nothing happens after that.. That marks the the end of the series... There are only 25 episodes in Death Note.
Actually, there are 17. It got up to the scene in the car with Light and his dad, and after that the show was mysteriously cancelled. There were rumours of this really terrible arc involving some businessmen, but that's all they were, rumours.

You clearly just don't understand the intellectual humour involved in it.
It wasn't that great really, I personally love the humour but it's incredibly hit and miss. And it's my first non-children's anime, I can't not like it.

Stick with it! Things really start to get good around the third episode.
I believe Yahtzee said it best that "It gets better later" isn't exactly a point in somethings favor. I watched the first 6 episodes of Baccano! and I would describe the series as being quality deficient. Would also add:

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - A decent series...until possibly one of the worst second seasons in the history of ever gets released. Ruined.

Gurren Laggan - Watched the first 9 episodes. Blech, an incredibly generic mecha-anime that's only selling point seems to be a cute sniper chick.

Lucky Star - A quirky slice of life series. It's pretty good. It is not the second coming of Jesus like many of its fans make it out to be.

Dragonball Z, Bleach and Naruto can also fuck right off. Three words: too much filler.

Baccano! I consider myself a smart person, so it wasn't that all the characters and the fast cuts and the not-giving-you-a-hint-about-what's-happening-so-you-have-to-piece-it-together-over-scores-of-episodes thing was over my head. It's just that I think it was executed poorly.

No matter how edgy and cool you think your show is, you still need to be careful not to be so self-indulgent and to hide your work so deeply inside in-jokes and winks to your buddies, that it ends up insulting its audience. Baccano suffers from the most self-indulgent and winky writing, it hardly deserves a first viewing, much less the necessary second viewing to pick up on what you missed the first time. Unfortunately, a lot of Anime creators are drinking their own Kool-aid at this point, and consider themselves above reproach and too good for such things as consistency and maturity.

Unfortunately, it got tons of press and good will thrown at it for all the wrong reasons, one of which has to do with an ignorant fan base that does not understand that it is not nearly as original or unique as its hype states. But mostly I think it's because smaller minded viewers and critics equate the modern disdain many shows have for their audiences as "cool." Sort of like how bullies beat up kids and smack their girlfriends around, but end up with hordes of lackeys and chicks hanging around, anyway. People just sometimes don't know the difference between cool and asshole.

Except it wasn't that hard to understand. I have never heard this complaint before at all. I've never even seen people mention this in its favor before. It uses in medias res and is fast paced as it jumps from one character to another and one timeline to another. That does not mean that it is difficult to understand.

Example please. I really don't have a clue what you mean by this, unless for some odd reason dramatic irony and shifting perspectives at some point began to mean the same thing as self-indulgence and winky writing, in which case the same thing could be leveled at most of the greatest works of Shakespeare.
Unfortunately, it got tons of press and good will thrown at it for all the wrong reasons, one of which has to do with an ignorant fan base that does not understand that it is not nearly as original or unique as its hype states. Once again, how can shifting perspectives and dramatic irony be the same as being a jerk to your audience. If anything it is expecting more of your audience as well as giving them more information than the majority of the characters they are rooting for have, in some ways making the viewer superior to the lead characters. And nothing is original or unique, and any criticism short of claiming something is a blatant ripoff of another work is pointless criticism to be completely honest. I've never praised Baccano for its originality, only for its characters and the framing device, which I find quite useful for delivering the story that they did.

Oh, Do you mean that!? Just as planned.

edit. I only read the manga, but I started to hate light as things went on. I hated the whole series after this brilant moment:
I hated him. I hate the whole series. I can't stand to see such a dick have so much power. I have never read a series that want to make me shot our main protagnist. Rant over. Anyway, I couldn't get past the first two epsiodes of Lain. It is too werid for me. The main hero got this look, that she is high as a house (look at her eyes)
Even WITH that perspective, you could still (theoretically) enjoy the show, watching the good guys get one over on Light constantly, which they do after THAT happens.
It was fun watching Light squirm, as much as I adored most of the characters.

True, but I couldn't watch it. Was so sick of his "masterplanes" and such.
I guess that's fair.
Death Note is still one of the best anime's I've seen. It was intelligent and complex, but easily followed. I just loved watching everyone's plans form, executed, and actually succeed (Or sometimes gloriously fail).

I'm just gonna come right out and say it. Highschool of the Dead. Don't get me wrong as far as fanservice animes go the characters were all good until saeko starts doing matrix titties, and fucking triple fucking airborne summersault slashes, not to mention producing one fucking season, and never producing another.

I watched it again after a while the other day, and began to notice everything everyone was complaining about. Shinji's a whiny little ***** 'cause his Dad doesn't love him. Asuka delves further and further into insanity (and ultimately a coma) because she's a stuck up *****. And Rei was given no personality whatsoever.
they become more likeable in the rebuild movies (especially Shinji going gar 2.0)
OT
I would say Naruto mostly because of it,s fanbase and the fact it,s still dragging on (the again this is a shonen series and those tend to have 200+ episodes)

I plan to don't worry.

I haven't heard enough people talk about eden to say it was overrated but I can agree that it was boring towards the end. I watched one of the movies and just could not understand what was happening but it was probably because I simply could not find a reason to care anymore. Interesting premise though it was.
